and they are rock hard...!!!!! Eek..... Any tips on how to soften the leather and break them in a bit before I start wearing the round the house as they are just so tight with stiff leather...like 2 planks and I'm scared my leg will get stuck...??

I wasn't expecting that an they are not exactly cheap boots..!

Any tips much appreciated....

Thanks xx

We used to rub neat washing up liquid into the insides of new ice skates, seem to remember it working but would probably void any chance of a return!

Thanks ok going to be brave and put them on again to see if I can get any give first and then will try once I know they def won't be going back. Thanks

Glad I am not the only one that thought Regents were excessively hard. I just kept applying dubbin, ka-cho-lin (or however it is spelt), NAF Balsam anything that claimed to soften leather. Even tried the dreaded neatsfoot and while the ankles softened with age and use, the tops were very much like farming gaiters!

Ha ha no your right they are rock hard...!

I have manned up, put 2 bin liners inside them so my feet/legs don't get stuck and I'm wearing them round the house now, I can tell they are going to be ok....just need to give and bend..!! I've got 2 socks at the top to to stop them digging into the back of my knee every time I bend....lol...!! Urgh they should come with a warning...!!

Mountain horse do some gel inserts for your heel area, they for new boots to raise you up in your so the don't jab you in the back of your knee, I would like some but I'm too tight to pay the £7 price tag haha.

Loads of Effax balsam, definitely the heel wedges to stop them digging in to the backs of your knees, and I would NEVER have survived the first few outings without some Compeed blister plasters to protect my heels. Wear them as much as you can bear around the house every evening, and I found standing with my toes on a stair and dropping my heels up and down really helped to stretch them a little.

However a year on and they're so comfortable, will happily wear them all day at a show, and even survived a couple of days hunting in them!

I used to have a pair of regents (pre zip days) and they were killers - sheer determination was the only way to get past the pain and blistering and I never did get them broken in (they came with my pony and I accepted them even though they were a size too small). I kept them for 15 yrs, still pristine, and sold them for £50 on eBay!
