For all his faults I really really liked him and would of love to have seen one of his live shows.

on bbc news says he is dead, whatever went on with him and whatever you thought nothing can take away from his music, he most likely now will be the biggest selling artist of all time, big shock though

gobsmacked and very very sad, i can hardly imagine there will be no more wonderful records. I can barely remeber a time when i was not listening to him and now i count it even more of a priviledge to have seen his live show three times.

I beg to differ...as a child he was repeatedly told he wasn't good enough so he was always seeking approval...hence trying to change to gain that acceptance. I still maintain that it's very sad

I've woken up to this news and can't believe how much it has affected me - I wasn't really even a fan - but OMG the end of an absolute legend and musical genius. I just hope the people who persecuted the man are feeling ashamed. I'm sure the absolute pressure the man has been under the last few years will have contributed to his death. A sad day for music.

Skiddaw_lad - the man was an icon! Yes he had mental issues but these were brought on my the childhood he had. From a skin colour point of view, seeing as you abviously don't realise this, the man had a skin condition called vitiligo which causes your cskin to go very white in patches. There is a form of medication for it that ends up going one of two ways...it will either cure it and make it go away or make the white go over your whole body. In his case it went over his whole body! I know this is true as my mother had vitiligo - hers was cured - and I have known several black people with it and one of them also went white with the treatment!
This man has contributed more than anyone realises to the music industry.......without his influence, artists like Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and indeed most modern artists would not be the people that they are today! A lot of his influences come through in their music!

So i don't mean to sound harsh but please do not speak ill of the dead.

Believe the stories or not, no-one can dispute his contribution to the world of music. R.I.P Michael Jackson. Gone but never forgotten

It's so sad and shocking i saw it on facebook and had to watch the bbc news channel till they confirmed it cos i didn't believe it, i'm not even that much of a fan it just seems to have affected so many people. The local news is on gmtv now and it's even got on there!

don't you think he contributed to the pressure by doing what he did ?, if he behaved like a normal "pop star " then no problem but he was just wierd to the point of just plain nuts

I don't think anyone could dispute that Michael had quite severe health problems - both physically and mentally. Personally I believe a lot of this was caused by his abusive childhood and the way he was brought up in the limelight. The way he behaved was decidedly odd but I don't think he chose not to act like a "normal" pop star - it was just the way he was. I think in particular after the very public court case he became even more fragile and that this in a lot of ways must have contributed towards his death - both by causing a lot of personal distress and probably the medication he must of been given to help him cope.

I remember when the Jackson 5 first came on the music scene (yep I'm that old) and loved all their music, and Michaels. He was such a cute kid and a good looking young man, such a shame his problems caused him to change himself into what he became.

Saying he 'chose' not to act like a normal pop star is like telling someone with schizophrenia that they chose not to act like a normal person. The man had psychiatric issues...hence his odd behaviour.....
