My long maned coloured cob (and therefore very desirable to nick!) has been tagged  They must have spent AGES put these plaits in  Which has obviously shown them he's good natured and tolerant so now I'm extra worried he's going to stolen :(

And this one's extra neat - does that mean he's extra desirable to nick?

SO, as it's far to cold to sit outside his field and keep vigal, and to make sure he doesn't get nicked I've:

Employed a security horse:

Teaching his self defence and Attack Tactics

And failing that I've bought a pair of shackles:

Sorted.

You can breathe easy it's not a plait or a tag just a tangle. My Arab mare (and her sisters) used to get them in her mane quite a bit when she lived out, anti tangle spray used to help.

At last! Some evidence! My cob is still waiting to be picked up.....

Loving the security btw, cost much?

p.s and you are obviously a neglectful owner and don't groom anywhere near enough!

Excellent post. No one has come for my plaited ones yet, either. I'm loving your highland in security mode, maybe I should train mine up too - oh wait, he's usually the one with the worst 'plaits'!

Lol!! Brilliant...although now I've seen him I might be tempted to come plait him myself and then come back in 2 days with a lorry and nick him!!:D

Hum, I think maybe custard didn't get the point of the thread :o

Security Horses are expensive to keep in cuddles, scratches and haylege (she's an (18mionths) pure highland Janah, as is the small backside you can see poking out the back of the small blue rug behind in the second last photo) but easily trained. You can see Commander Toby behind keeping an eye on the situation and making sure she does her job properly. And if they do somehow get past that security then they still have to deal with this highly trained Attack Horse, who watches like a hawk, stalks you and will rip your legs off and eat your liver if provocked.

And OMG, how did I miss that they're nicked Pips rug?! He beautiful 400g combo with 200g underrug? He must have been soooooooo cold. Maybe that's why they never took him - he was frozen to the spot? It was -15degrees the night before after all

Sorry, I know I'm missing it, but why is this funny? I understand you're making a joke about the horses who's manes are being braided as a sign to steal them, and that you're horse's tangles aren't braids...

or is that the joke- was there never such a thief and people who thought there was were naive enough to believe that tangles = braids and intent to steal?

I'm still not up on the whole UK humor thing :| Sorry!

Ohhhh right thanks NP, I didn't realize it was a myth, I thought it really was a problem but that you were joking about it with these particular horses!!!

If those were plaits then God help every horse kept outdoors that's not hogged and tied :P
