Senza was kicked last Friday and has been on atibiotics for the last few days. He leg is fine now and the cut is healing nicely so i decided to take her for a plod around the block.

We was walking happily along the main road when we started to pass some logs on the ground outside the pub (we walk passed these every hack) but for some reason Senza took a dislike to the 2nd to last one and went flying across the road with no warning into teh path of an oncoming car

Luckily the car was far enough away to stop!!!

I pushed her on when she proceeded to run backwards, i then whacked her with my reins and she reared

She has never even so much as bunny hopped with me before so i was in shock!!! I then growled at her and she went up again!! She then started cantering sidewards, spinning round the lot!!!

By this time someone had run out of the pub to stop all the traffic!!! I gave Senza a massive boot and she went up again and this time it was almost vertical

smacking me in the face in the process!! I tried to calm her down but it didn't work, when she realised she couldn't get away with rearing she started doing little rears and then throwing massive bucks straight after

Luckily someone horsey was walking her dogs and we managed to calm her down and walk her passed!! And for the rest of the hack (decided to take the short route though) she was as good as gold

On the way back some bloke came out of the pub and said 'i'm suprised your still on that thing, its a b*st*rd'

She has never been like this before, yes she can be highly strung but never dangerous and i really dont know what got into her.

probably not the best thing to write on open forum when you may possibly be selling the mare

Glad you are okay though!

Have you been keeping her in whilst the cut healed? a change of routine can sometimes upset horses. Or maybe the antibiotics have made her a bit silly?

tonight, get someone to hack with you on the same route. if she goes up or you feel she is going to go up, turn her sharply. If you unbalance her she can't go up, and will see it's just not worth it.

Eeek I've had that before, Horse rearing, hopping, spinning, running back, everywhere but forwards. Luckly I was very relaxed, calm and feeling rather confident. I too tried telling the horse off and to get on with it, tired calming him, got the other horse riding with to go ahead, clealy he wasn't going to snap out of this panic and was getting more and more upset. I did what you should never do and dismounted when they started getting vertical. A horse rearing and falling back, especialy on a road does no one anygood. I have ridden the horse since, even when hes been stupidly fresh and he hasn't again. We had been totaly amazed at how well he behaved before this hickup, strange.

No she has still been going out so no change of routine and she rides passed this route every time we go out for a hack. It was so unlike her!!

Hi B&J i have decided not to sell for the time being anyway, she is staying with me now til next spring (going to give her the summer competing) as she seems to have turned a corner and i think we may have cracked our issues.

As i said before though this is so unlike her so i am hoping it was just a mixture of being off work and trying to push her boundries as she is still a baby. She didn't get away with it though and was good as gold for the rest of the ride

Well if it is still in her system then that could explain the outburst!! She has never been on bute before so wouldn't know.

I did actually ask my friend if it could be the antibiotics coz i was so shocked at her behavour but she thinks not

Hope you are ok not a nice thing to happen especially when its totally out of character for the horse. Could be the bute as a friends horse was exactly the same on it?

How many days off did she have? Often a few days is enough to turn a horse a bit nutty. If my horse had more than 2 days off, I wouldn't dream of getting on her back, I'd have to lunge 1st.
