I was driving my delivery van tonight and going from Coalville to Earl Shilton ,so Leicester way.
I came around a bend and saw in the distance a pony and trap coming towards me.I could see the pony was very narrow and young looking and as it got nearer and I slowed to a snails pace ,I could see something strange about its head.At first I thought it had a strange marking but as it got closer I could see, IT HAD WHITE TAPE ACROSS ITS EYES. Yes it had blinkers on and the tape was stuck to them and straight across the pony's eyes, like a blindfold.
I stopped and looked as the pony was raced past me.
Is this how they break them in ,blind.
Has anyone else ever seen this?

OMG ... all I can say that it must be a very trusting little horse

Oh my goodness i cannot believe these people they are the pondlife thats for sure.
I first came across these b**tards when coming back from Hartbury last year and as i was driving the lorry saw the 'chalk' marks of hooves on the road to find a little further along 4 ponies being raced on the road i could not believe it and felt so helpless. There is nothing at that moment that i could do and the police just seem to be too scared to give a damn, or are their hands simply too tied with red tape.. whatever the reason this kind of suffering and abuse in a supposedly 'civilised 'country is ia joke.

Dont get me started......i can feel a rant coming on .... better go and eat some porrige and calm down... it s been a rough week....... :

Quite. This is one reason I get so cross when people criticise barbaric animal practices in other countries, particularly poor ones. We are no better here in so very many ways. Maybe someone should alert the Daily Mail about this? They love a new cause to embrace, although this one is probably too close to home for them.

Sooty you took the words right out of my mouth!

To the OP, that is just barbaric - shame gigs and carts don't have license plates, would make them easier to report!

I have very good idea of the area you were in and nothing at all would suprise me from the particular residents I am thinking of in that area! Guess the pony was extremely young and being made to trot at speed, they normally are. Not noticed the tape before but to be honest they are normally going so fast past you it is diffcult to take it all in.

This doesnt surprise me at all. A few years ago i was riding on the beach in Somerset and these people turned up with driving ponies racing along the beach. This beach is well known for the sinking sand when the tide has gone out and they decided to race across it which resulted in the ponies getting stuck!!
