he i agree which is why if there is a problem im suprised at vet they know that too much can go wrong so are normally very wary
lets hope the different vet comes up trumps
 
Heres hoping that tomorrow brings you better news, and very pleased your chiro referred you early on rather than treating and gave you suggestions.

Buying and indeed selling a horse is never ever easy, as it is a live animal at stake and either way most people want the best for them, and it certainly doesnt matter how experienced you are, or years around horses you have we all have been caught out one time or another, sometimes major sometimes minor things.

Lets us know what happens and that it is a minor hiccup and can easily be sorted.

• have you do anything that could lame the horse is the time you have had it, this includes lunging as if it's a bit weak this could well make it sore and unlevel.
• if dealer has offered money back what have you said? Hanging on to the horse is not in your favour. ESP if your still working it.
• a vetting is only valid the day you bought the horse and is a snapshot of the horse on the day, what one vet passes another won't. Your first step would be to get bloods tested for bute. If you can't prove this then really you have very little to stand on.
• opinions on horses are only one persons opinion. Just because a chiropractor says the horse isn't right won't mean it is. To be able to have any sort of strong case you need a full vets referal and reports, possibly a xomplete lameness work up.

yes i had full vetting no mention was made of pelvis hips just old splint and s few cuts n grazes no vaccs thats was it
yes i lunged and rode him he seemed fine but stiff and threw head up when i asked him to go forward on bit
dealer only offered my refund on return within first 4 wks over the passport issue and age difference this new concern yesterday is now into having him 5wks
yup depending on vets diagnosis i will get bloods tested for bute if needed

Not really got much to add to all the above other than:

You can not x-ray for a broken pelvis - it needs to be scintigraphy; A vet should however be able to do a rectal examination and feel a problem

A horse CAN pass a 5 stage vetting with a previous broken pelvis, I know this because it happened to me.

My horse was diagnosed after scintigraphy and it was confirmed by Sue Dyson that the injury would not show up on a vetting and that there was no claim against the vet that carried out the vetting.

If you have your horse's pelvis scanned relatively quickly and there is a fracture they would be able to tell if it is aged and completely healed or if it has happened in the last 5 weeks

Scintigraphy is not cheap!
 
Sorry to hear about your problems.

Was the horse sound on the day you got him??
If he was then i cant see what come back for the lameness your have off the vets. The vetting are only at the time and place. the horse could go lame half hour after vetting but he horse was still fit and passed at the time.
If the horse was sound i cant see ehy the vets would look into the pelvis unless there was an obvious problem.

Is there anyway he could of hurt himself on way to your yard or in field etc?
 
ok 1st thing I cant take a refund as that only applied when i 1st contacted dealer regarding the age and passport issue within the 1st month

This isn't quite correct. If the horse was wrongly advertised, you have a case - simple as that.

This is a really interesting post, and again goes to highlight two (maybe three) really important things.

Always take a really experienced person with you to view a horse;
Always be present at the vetting

And the possible three - really learn what a well put together horse should look like.

I'm just going to be brutally honest here after reading through this thread, personally in your circumstances I think the only sensible option, if you still can that is, is to return horse and get a full refund.

For the price you have paid for horse, the fact that the horse turned out to be older that what it is, the possible suspected problems the horse may have (which could be something or nothing but could potentially cost you a lot of money), the fact that its pigeon toed etc, it doesnt sound like the horse is worth the price you paid and I mean that in the nicest possible way.

What ever happens, I hope it works out best for you and the horse.

i am not long back from yard. tried him on lunge today and now he is lame on left fore. I know people will saw this is poss as hes compensating for the right hip but hes def not hurt himself or been flighty in field.
He had yesterday off and the day befor when we saw he was lame on right hind.
The vet now hopes to be out monday before lunch.
Hes becoming a bit of a show and tell at the yard now everyones feeling his hips and going ooh yeah that is odd theres like a bit missing My poor babe just stands looking at us all :)
just enjoyed brushing him kissing n cuddles whilst talking rubbish to him and he seemed contented.
It may all turn out to be nothing but if not I know we will have to part :(
I will keep you all posted and thank you for all replies so far
