How horrific - just seen it on the news - a whole yard of racehorses have been killed in a fire in Turin, Italy - The yard was a burnt out shell on the news this evening - Over a million euros apparently - mind you - the cost of the horses is irrelevant - it's the terror that those poor horses went through - How totally tragic!

I just hope that like people the smoke inhalation got them first and they didn't actually burn as such. How terrible

Just makes me wonder. I know my small yard doesn't have smoke detectors, but I would have thought the big yards would have had them. Not in this case I guess. How devestateing for everyone.
 
They werent racehorses, they were trotters! The yard is owned by Cristina who is a friend of many years-it was rented to a Swedish trainer/breeder. Its believed that the fire started in a tack room due to a faulty heater

. The canadian barn style stables went up due to hay, straw and the plastic finish of the wooden walls etc. She lost her old dressage mare and a couple of youngsters and is devastated. The heater is an excuse for "mafia" type things-if you dont pay up....!!!!!
