OMG thats awful wouldnt you love to do that to those people and see how they like it. After all at the end of the day a horse is a horse they are meant to be wild creatures with natural movement

The first page are for Tennessee Walkers.

OMG!! at least over here it is not a common thing to do (and well hidden if you are cruel enough to do so)! and they certainly dont sell torture devices like that in tack shops!!

well at least its only a crupper....much rather see one of those than a tail which has been "nicked" so that the poor horse can never carry its tail properly again

""""Show horses may have extremely high-set tails. This is usually done by nicking a muscle on the tail base. When the muscle heals, it's easier for the tail to be held up. The set-tail look can also be accomplished by wearing the tailset for an extended period of time, with horses that have a high croup. Show horses are often kept in elaborate-looking tail-setting devices (tailset) while in the stalls to keep the tail from returning to its original position, which can occur if the setting device is left off for many days. It is sometimes thought that the high tail of the saddlebred comes from actually breaking the tail bones. While this did occur years ago (they would break the bones and allow them to heal upright), it is illegal now. """""

Rapping, bottle tops etc on the inside of bandages, mouths tied tightly shut, short standing or running martingales, incapable people using half an ironmongers shop as bits (specially children), incapable people using spurs, blah blah-the list could go on and on. Heres one that goes on in almost every yard..trimming whiskers from round the muzzle and eyes and clipping the insides of ears. Okay, not on the cruelty list but just as bad for the horse. Mairi.

amandaco, ginger salve is put on the inside of the anus, it feels like it is burning so the horses are on thier toes and figety.

Mairi, i dont think that trimming is bad for the horse, what damage does it do? how does it cause them pain or serious discomfort?

Really? I thought Ginger Salve was for taking down inflammation?

It's for rubbing it on their legs isn't it to reduce heat and swelling?

As I said, these things arent on anyones cruelty list but the do cause discomfort for the horse. Clipping the insides of the ears takes away the hairy protection against dust, seeds and flies. Trimming the whiskers is removing a sensory organ which the horse uses in the same way as a cat. They are feelers and help him to touch and be aware of say , the ground when eating or when about to touch something. It cant be very pleasent for him to do without them because the owner thinks he looks tidier. Like the TWH cradled tail, trimming is human based vanity and unatural for the horse. Ive always shown untrimmed and never had any problems or been stood down for whiskers. Obviously soring a horse or trimming its whiskers are not on the same level, but in our own litttle world, we are guilty of causing the horse discomfort i many ways. M.

Oh dear. While I cannot condone animal cruelty of any kind another form of torture comes to mind........ the pure torture of hearing a post with "ONLY IN AMERICA" again!

Media hyped ignorance comes to mind when I see these posts
smirk.gif

actually I laugh incredibly hard when I read them out of pity.
Unless you have traveled or spent time in a country at great length you should NEVER comment on a place as a whole. Also.....Going to Orlando Florida for a one week vacation does not give you an opinion either

Now go and do something productive and educate yourself before making a damning post like this again.

Firstly what I'm about to put does not constitue as me condoning any of this, I just thought I would add what I know. Also I admit to not having read the thread word for word. The article you posted firstly angel7 refers to mechanical contraptions so presumable the "bangles" are not classified under this - goodness knows what the mechanical contraptions are

.

In the UK I believe you will find the Hackney fraternaty use bangles and the cruppers too. I attended a driving display night and the hackney display used and explained the use of these "gadgets"! As the Hackney breed are horses that have a naturally high tail carriage and action they are also judged on these traits too. So if you have a comformationally perfect horse but they are lazy with their action then bangles encourage them to accentuate their action therefore making them more likely to do well showing. Like wise with the crupper.

I don't personally see much wrong with the gadgets such as bangles/cruppers - look at racing and showing where aluminium plates are used to encourage the horse to throw its hooves and all the gadgets used by riders in general - they are not physically harming the horse (IMHUO). Anything else that is mechanical or applied (such as ginger salve

) in my eyes is disgraceful.
