The vet came today to jab Monty and Zoom. I am at work so my trusted OH kindly went down to get them out and hold them for the vet.

Monty is a pain in the arse to get out of the field in the daytime but OH was pleased that Monty came straight out and even text me smugly to say Monty likes him better than me.

The owner of a new horse then arrived and asked why OH had got her horse out

!

They look very similar and stupid OH had got wrong horse out! Luckily the vet hadn't been yet so he sheepishly went to catch Monty who planted and wouldn't come out for half an hour.

DOH! Luckily no harm done and new owner thought it was pretty funny. I will have to send him armed with photos next time! WHOOOOOPS!

Bless, as some else said at least he was trying to help.

My OH did something abit similar with our mares who were both dark bay, although mine had a star whilst his had no white at all. He brought them in, put my mare in his mare stable and then complained that someone had put Bears rug on Ella, it was only then my friend informed him that actually that was Bear and he had put them in the wrong boxes.

What may it worse is that we had owned Ella for nearly 10 years, you think he'd have been able to recognise his own horse.

Ha ha! My brother did a similar thing years ago with my sisters horse. She'd asked him to check on the horse while she was on holiday - he's non horsey but really all he had to do was check it wasn't on 3 legs & give it a carrot - anyway when she returned the notoriously evil horse on the yard went happily trotting over to my brother & had a lovely fuss and a carrot. My sister was amazed.
Then she got her horse out of the field and my brother asked what she was doing - when she told him she was getting her horse out to ride he said 'that's not the one I've been feeding all week'! He'd been feeding the yard nutter - hence the reason for it's complete devotion to my totally clueless brother!!!!!!

That's funny but get this ...

years ago I knew a girl who got the wrong horse in from the field (she went to get her OWN horse who she had had for a year). She got a very similar one out, tacked it up and went for a hack on it! She didn't even realise til she got back and the YO asked why she was riding X's horse and not her own!!!!!!

Similar experience, the girl in question brought the horse in, fed it and then spent about an hour grooming before I asked what she was doing - had no idea that she had brought in a mare with 4 white socks instead of her gelding who only had 2......

Lol that is funny, similar thing happened, my horse was brought in by someone's OH as she looks similar to other mare in field! Not for jabs but for dinner! She almost had two dinners that day!

Oh bless him, what a lovely OH.

Mine would have probably have done the same, I do have a yearling and her Mum that are practically identical until they face you and then one has a blaze, but even I can't tell them apart from a distance and not head on, then the two QH's lookalike too, and are even the same shade of palomino.

I actually used to find the identification thing quite useful, my field used to be away from the house and OH didn't go there much, I had a habit of buying grey ponies and when he'd say "Is that new?" I'd say "Oh the grey one, nooooooo, had him for ages"

Can't do that now, the horses are at home and OH can count even if he can't tell the bays or the palominos apart.

Much easier in winter they all have different coloured blankets on

A friend once got my mare in for me - a spottybot.

Only she brought in a gelding. A bay gelding. He was reknown for being a bit grumpy to handle in the stable and have his rugs done.

She had him in, rug off, new rug on and didn't realise it was the wrong horse until she was bending down to get the tummy strap

At least it was spotted before jabs were administered!!!
Thing is bet you don't think the horses look that alike at all. At one point I had 2 TB bay geldings I competed both with blaze and socks. To me though they looked totally different but I was amazed by the number of people who muddled them up and asked which I was on!

My OH did some classics ...... came down to yard on a rare visit and look over my stable door and said oh she looks good ...only for me to stand there and stare at him in disbelief as my horse had moved to another stable about 6 mths before and the horse he was looking at was a 14hh grey gelding.... my horse was a 16.3 palomino mare ! the other time was I persuaded him to video a dressage test on my other horse .. not only was he late ( I was in my test ) only to catch the last halt but to try and make up for it he bought me the offical photo ..... only it was of some one else on a skewbald.... he said but all the 'cow horses' look the same !!!
bit worring that he didn't recongise me ( only been married for 12 years)
hence we are now divorced !!!!!!!!! lol

lmao my sister did the same thing luckily I was there and asked why she was bringing 'x' in instead of my horse she was very embarrassed lol
