Big sigh...OK...went to yard tonight, nice evening, for a change ...kids with OH...fancied a ride, nice hack out into the woods and over a few stubble fields....horse all brushed and clean.....for a change...unlocked tack-room......you guessed it......saddles all gone
shocked.gif
.....empty saddle racks, numnahs/saddlecloths strewn around......thieving b****** been and nicked our stuff.

Well....you can imagine...YO stuff been nicked also, so she's well not impressed. Thing is, this is a working farm - there is always, always someone around...we've narrowed it down to a 50 minute slot where the farm and yard was unattended and the gits have been and cleared us out - they must have been watching the yard, they knew exactly where to go. Nothing has ever been nicked before- YO lives on site, yard/farm locked overnight- you think you are pretty much secure.

So- my OH Wintec has gone, a saddle I had actually sold on e-bay has gone, so I have had to refund the buyer and explain why I no longer have a saddle to post out....but worst of all....my brown leather County straight cut saddle has gone.
frown.gif
....plus my flexi-stirrups
shocked.gif
..............absolutely p***** off, I have the money to buy a new one, but thats not the point - house needs a new boiler and daughter ready for a bigger pony, you shouldnt have to replace stuff because some git has walked off with it...just have to see what insurance says, but |I have a feeling i'm not covered because of the amount of saddles on the yard, think theres an exclusion....I COULD KICK MYSELF for not bringing it home.....AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!

(At least they didn't get my bridles...thank god, theyre Stubben)

Yes, police are involved, they have a list of all missing stuff, although what they will do is debatable.

YO is going around local tack shops tomorrow to inform, and also RC will be informed.

Some of our 'travelling friends' are in the area apparantly...not wishing to cast aspertions, but hey - Iv'e seen Snatch

West/North Yorks border, by the way....

Yes it was locked, but they broke the lock, because i couldn't get the padlock open and we had to fiddle with it...they put it back to look as if it was ok ... and obviously no-body noticed until I tried to get to get my saddle....I'm gutted, yes, furious too cos although the saddle wasn't new when i got it, it fitted as though it was made to measure and looked great too....i am also now very slightly p***** - (needs must -) hey ho...daughters cub saddle hasn't been nicked, so i could always strap that on my lad and squeeze my bum into it....

Next-door-but-one to me got done a few weeks ago. My place is Fort Knox compared to theirs but I still had all my saddles post-coded and brought them indoors. OH not happy at all, but I'm taking no chances. My saddles have more sentimental value than monetary worth. They can be replaced at a push, but their memories for me can't.

Already been on e-bay, will be keeping an eye on there....the wintecs/thorowgoods all look pretty much the same when theyve been stripped...not really bothered about them TBH, but I could pick my saddle out anywhere.....

Brought saddles indoors when there was a spate of robberies a few months ago, but thought the coast had cleared. What a b*****.

Sorry to hear about your theft.

Which area are you in?

Please ensure that Horsewatch are informed so that it can be listed with them.

When replacing your tack ensure that it is all tack marked with your post codes and also use smart water to mark them.

In many cases they come back a few weels/months later knowing that the tack will be replaced and remove all the new tack.

Whats smart water??

Our tackroom was cleared out over 4 years ago, Its such a frustrating experience

Our yard is right on a main road yet they managed to get in over the top of the stables and build themselves a way back out again with our shavings bales!! They had been watching for some time

All our saddles are individually locked away and mine are security marked and registered with our local "safer neighbourhood team" of the MET police.

West Yorks- there is a layby near the farm which is used frequently - legitimately for the most time, by lorry drivers etc - tend not to notice TBH, but they were prob watching from there. OH has heard that some travellers were moved on from the area today, so perhaps that was their way of saying goodbye.....until it happens i think you tend to be bit blase about stuff.....at least it wasnt the horses though.

I am so sorry. That must have been such a shock. But at least the horses were unharmed. That must be some consolation. But very unpleasant to know that people have been watching you. Perhaps as well no-one walked in while this was going on.... who knows how they'd have reacted.

Of course you should try the insurance, its always worth a go.

We were totally cleared out as well at the beginning of July but they just kicked the door in. There were 8 bridles and 5 saddles stolen, along with headcollars, stirrups, girths etc. Over £4000 worth of stuff. I was also the one who found it and although it was reported to the Police they didn't really give a stuff

NFU paid out very very quickly, within a week, with no questions or haggling. We were all insured with NFU as well.

All of my tack comes home everynight now, it is a pain to have it in and out of the car all of the time, our downstairs loo is now a tack room!!!

I know what you are going through, had my yard done a few weeks ago. We have since fitted cctv and that still hasn't put them off as it picked them up snooping around again. They seem to be really taking chances at the moment and are extremely active everywhere. Its really depressing

smart water is a liquid that has a chemical code in it unique to you, and can be used just about anywhere, cant be removed. Police can easily detect it under ultraviolet light. Of course the thieves might carry an ultraviolet checker too, but that will just mean they leave your stuff behind Lots of plant hire and computer equipment peeps use it. The goods can be identified back to you.

The main downside is there seems to be an annual subscription to keep up the registration .

I hope they are caught. Keep an eye on ebay over the next few weeks, you may find they put it on there.

The interesting thing about your stuff getting nicked is just veryvery recently a yard was broken into and had stuff stolen in Durham - I wonder if it's the same people?

Suppose I'd best bring my saddle home tonight =(

Erm, if you are insured then go to the insurance company. There (as far as I know) only 1 company with the ridiculous 5 saddle rule (and I think you can all guess who that is!!!)

As far as insurance companies are aware the majority of horse owners keep their horses on livery yards so there's generally likely to be more than 5 horses on a yard! Provided the correct security measures were in place you won't have a problem.

Think i shallbe keeping my eyes open now as in W Yorks too but we no longer have our tack kept at our stables as have been hit several timee. We now have an industrial metal container with any rugs etc in but they've still got into that twice (once last year). The last time they cut through it using an acetaline torch! They wanted our generator and took a lawn mower too. Generator's goen a couple of times so am assuming it's the same people. Thankfully we finally have got electricity in now!!!

It's the worst feeling arriving to your stables to see that someone's been there!
