This is really funny. I'm going with the short version to save you all from reading a novel of the details.

Ok first....Anyone who has a Horse & Country subscription, you can see the whole class here:

We start at time code 33:45

So I got a wild hare of an idea and decided to take Chad to do the in hand Amateur Handler class at Dressage at Devon. (For those paying attention, this is the same venue where I had the bad accident in 2019 and got run over by the horse jumping out of the ring while standing ringside on foot).

So we had 2 weeks to learn and prepare. I studied videos, worked with experienced handlers, took a lesson and we got pretty good at the triangle.

See practice video here:

So Tuesday was the day. Class was starting at 5:10pm. We were to go at 5:50pm.

He was WILD in the warm up. Think like king stallion of the world, complete with Arabian tail over his back and prancing. But he did settle down and eventually it was our turn.

He stood lovely for the presentation, did a nice walk triangle with only one minor jig moment. And then we went to trot. Did the first side, made the turn and then.......

Yea..... That was FUN!!!

I got back up and reunited with Chad. They let me redo the trot and finish with the test. We were scored really well and finished 6th out of 12!!! Nice green ribbon and an awesome story to tell too!!!

Tried to share the video and short version of story on SEU, since Chad is my eventer and it was declined for being "Too Normal" :D:p;)

Very educational for me. I am sorry you fell but when I was doing the BHS Stable management one of the things that one was supposed to do was trot up a horse.
I have since done this, trotting up properly for a vet but at the time it terrified me. I was 62 and not prepared to risk it. I pictured myself trippng and being trampled by the horse.
The RI assured me it was safe and that never happened. As demonstrated in your video.

Emily you’ve given me such a laugh sharing this with such good humour. Thank you!
.

Honestly it was so funny and to have tripped myself on my own big feet in paddock boots....just MORE hysterical. Add to that I was shoe shopping the morning of the show trying to find better shoes and couldn't.

LOL

I crack myself up.

At least it will be a memorable ribbon ?

This is the main reason I've been putting off taking my youngster to a show, between his rubbish spatial awareness with his big feet and my general clumsiness (I ended up in A&E once after tripping up on my own pajamas) I'm fairly sure I'd throw myself into the ground in front of him at some point.

Well done for the frilly! I don't think I've ever seen anyone get ditched in the in-hand before.

I have long given up on trying to share stuff to SEU as I just find the snotty "we don't like you" response incredibly belittling. I find posting on Sh. Dressage Unite much more welcoming.

I can see this happening to me at some point, I have hypermobile ankles and often fall over just walking along let alone jogging attached to a horse! Thanks for sharing ?

Can’t watch video as away at a show and not enough connection but years ago I fell over on a lap of honour in hand. Looked like I’d been in the ring heavyweight boxing as has huge bruises either side of my jaw. Horse wasn’t bothered. I just tripped. Well done your placing.

Lovely video. I recommend Shitedressageunited. It has a nicer vibe than SEU, and they have allowed a few of my photos which are way more shite than that. A visit to the pub (I said that I was too shite to do dressage but rode my horse on a 22k round trip to find a beer... got around 2000 'likes' for that one, which says something about people) and a BOGOF foal (the horse in question isn't backed yet, but she's been a teen mom).

I posted in there yesterday afternoon because you and a few others had mentioned in and so far we're almost at 500 Likes etc.

I do like this group. Much less attitude. Way more sense of humor and a couple of people who were there and watched it happened commented with very kind words.

I was humbled.
