I remember this when it was posted on here before. I think quite a few of us found it funny, and sadly had to agree with a lot of the points in it. I have a feeling "Nick" actually came on here and posted, but could be totally wrong about that.

I'm with you Chap.

I have also been stuck for miles behind boxes and trailer that seem to contain nitro-glycerine rather than horses. I find it excruciatingly testing of my patience, despite towing a trailer and horses myself from time to time.

Let the guy blow off some steam. I mean, as a computer gamer, it probably occurred on the one day a month he drags himself out into the REAL world

I actually love the 1st reply from the guy who works in a bank...I'd love to say I'm one of those horsey types and guess what I WORK FOR A LIVING and I'd bet I earn more every year than you do - how embarrassing for you to earn less than a diamond loving, fake tan wearing, horse riding, "how does one order"-ing layyyyddddeeeee!!!!!!!!

He does have a point really....

i find being stuck behind a Horsebox or a trailer doing anything from 20 - 30 mph BLOODY annoying TBH...especially on decent A roads...even on motorways some insist on doing 30!!!

Don't get me started on this JM!!

A guy at my yard flat refuses to drive above 30mph in his lorry (it's not one of those silly transit types either, it's a proper big old 3/4 horse new lorry). It takes him twice as long as it should to get anywhere and has queues everywhere he goes. People on here moan about tractors that don't pull over...why don't horse boxes like this pull over when there's a queue behind?

I tow a trailer regularly and where possible, I do the speed limit for a trailer. So, on a dual carriageway that is usually a 70mph, I do 60 if I can, and so on. When I'm driving around narrow lanes and have to go slowly, I will pull over to let cars behind past.

Is it any wonder that people have little patience with horse boxes, the way some people drive them?!

i always drive to the speed limit..beit 30/40/60/70...

my lorry hasn't got a limiter, so its able to do more than 70...which it does if the motorway isnt busy

i also have emblazoned in large letters on the tailgate...

AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE"

it seems to work, as i've received many positive comments about it....and my decent driving!!!LOL!
 
Now I don't know as I don't drive a horsebox but doesn't your speed, in part, depend on how well your horse travels? Surely someone people with young/nervous horses will take it very steady so as not to make it a bad experience?
I agree tho that they could perhaps pull over to let traffic pass - it's the courteous thing to do

QR I hasten to add that I found the post by Nick absolutely hilarious and damned well spot on in a lot of cases of horsey or supposedly country people that I know.
Haven't had a such a laugh over reading a thread in a long time. An old, post it may be but it was exceptionally well written in my opinion!
 
i've just read through the entire thing, and have to say... it is pretty funny. like someone else said, he has more knowledge and insight than you'd expect from a non-horsey person (he even uses the word 'pommel' etc)... so i suspect he's actually a bit horsey himself.

i love how, when the original horsemart thread was taken down, it suddenly became geek central... talking about caches and stuff.

well, that was a lovely bit of light entertainment for my bored afternoon! x

I know terrible ssslloooowww drivers that are frankly dangerous towing or driving horses, and people who are quick, calm, very very stable and balanced.

We once followed once horsebox doing 15mph on a 60mph road for 40minutes, the queue was absolutely ridiculous, I'd say easily 40+cars. We passed many, many pull-in points and lorry slipways. Eee, if you're on here, and you know hwo you are - BE VERY ASHAMED! My grandma missed her hospital appointment
