Just seen this ad and very tempted to call and enquire:

very old black cob - 14.2hh gelding rides and drives would suit someone learning to drive done many weddings excellent condition for his age lives in or out £150ono

What should I do if pony doesn't turn out to be that old? Should I go see / buy? Am seriously looking for another horse / pony that I can ride as retired my old boy this year but do I want to take on another oldie? Can't afford to 'collect' horses and only have 3 stables :(

But my heart is telling me to go get this one to give him a nice retirement home.

Hand strays towards phone.....................

They're trying to sell it, they're unlikely to say "very old" if they can get away with old.

You've just retired one & you can't afford to collect them. If only I was as good at taking my own advice!

Phoned them - immediately after hitting 'post thread button' :o

'very old' is late 20s but she wasn't 100% sure.

He's still in work which is good but is grumpy in stables and previous owner said that they didn't trust him with regards to kicking etc (but current owner hadn't had any problems / experienced kicking) so no good for me. Seller very honest on phone which is so nice to hear nowadays and so think she will be careful to find the right person to buy.

Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained I suppose

Poor old boy - he's more than earned his keep over the years and now they want rid of him. Clearly he is nothing more than a tool to be used and got rid of. I shall poke my old girl yet again this evening and remind her how lucky she is.
