I've had another bash at trying to find a sharer/someone to ride one or both of my girls as I just don't have the time to keep them both going as much as I'd like. Ad specifically said adults only. 17yr old replies. I politely replied saying I'd rather someone older and hope she found something suitable soon. So I just got this back

"Good luck to yourself too. Remember age isn’t everything. I know a lot more about horses than half the adults out there."

And that's exactly why I said adults only!!! I've tried this before and only had freaks, weirdos and scroungers reply! Where do you all find your decent sharers?!!

Some teenagers are great with horses, but if you only want adults to care for your horses then that's your decision. The immature response kinda proved your point there didn't in! Besides for all she knew your horses could be on a adult only yard!

I'm a sharer and the owner found me on preloved. Good luck with your search :)
 
Ive spent ages looking too, had kids as young as 11 asking. They struggle to understand that even if they can ride they would lack the physical strength to control him, and had lots (children and adults!) that seem to skip over the 'not suitable for novices' part ! :/

Having said that am giving it a trial with a 16 yo, she rides nice and her mum supervises, thats the thing with under 18s, for saftey they need someone responsible around who knows what they are doing, so I could totally understand not wanting a child, its not just the riding after all, its being safe to handle them too.
 
She could well be right. But, as above it's your choice.

Good luck, you will probably have to wade through a lot of unsuitable people but you will find the right person eventually, i'm sure.
 
I know the feeling - I had my sensitive gelding whom is prone to napping available on loan. It stated no novices as he takes his confidence from the rider.

To date, Ive had; a girl that couldn't sit to the correct diagonal, a girl that hadn't cantered before and a bloke that couldn't do rising trot. So annoying as Ive been so honest about him so why can't they be honest about themselves.

On top of the above Ive turned down dozens of people looking to teach their partners to ride/ novice mums looking to hack with their daughters.

I've got nothing against age, we've all been young and wanted a horse however the rider needs to be competent. I'm so fed up of time wasters that Ive taken down his advert as I was starting to intentionally put people off to save my time!
 
I just placed an ad on gumtree. May try preloved although I hate the thought of advertising my girls as preloved!! It's always the way that there are perfect people in the wrong place. I'm actually surprised I've only had two replies in 24hrs! Fingers crossed!

I've had great sucess with Preloved in the past, let us know how you get on.
 
Its your choice at the end of the day and if you're not happy with a younger person, you aren't happy! :)
I was 12 when I started out sharing and I still share with the same lady today (I moved onto her 'more temperamental' horse shall we say (!) when I outgrew the pony) so have been very lucky as we are more like friends now.
It can work but I must admit I needed a lot of teaching and patience (I'd never looked after a horse before!) Unfortunately I can't offer any advice on where to share, as this pony was found by my mums work colleague so word of mouth really.
So long as the person you end up with gets on well with yourself and your horse and you trust them, nobody else has any say in it :)
