We seem to rehoming lots of doggies recently

5 went out this week alone....a few people taking 2 together

But have a list waiting to come in

...inc a Neo mastiff and 2 bullmastiffs

but u cant have it always

Can u tell Im bored and cant sleep cos ive slept all day

Thats great that youve found homes for the dogs but sad about the mastiffs.

Hope you dont mind me asking a few questions (genuine, not criticising anyone).
Bearing in mind mastiffs are expensive dogs to buy, is there any way you can trace the breeder? If the breeders are kennel club registered then they should take responsibility for rehoming the dog and most responsible breeders would want to. I dont think many people who buy pedigree dogs are actually aware of this. There cant be many Neo breeders in the country. Would you use the mastiff rescue society?

There are some very responsible breeders who would be devastated to know one of their pups had ended up in a rescue.

Its one of several reasons I didnt breed from my bitch as i heard that they can end up at rescues without the breeder ever knowing.

Admittedly the breeder I bought my bitch from was extremely experienced and asked me a million questions before I was even invited to look at the dogs!!

She was a very scary lady but she wasnt going to let just anyone have her dogs.

I think the person I bought the other dog from was in it for the money

but I also think she would have taken the pup back.)


Im not getting at you btw as I think you and your mum do a fantastic job, just wonder whether the kennel club ruling is ever actually applied. Or is it just that the papers are lost?

Or do you just take in ill-treated dogs that have been removed from their "owners" rather than ones that have been handed over for other reasons?

When the mastiffs come in will you put some photos up for me please!!!!!!

Right in regard to the breeder....I dont mind u asking at all....no problems

The youngest mastiff bitch was tied to a gate of a farm that owns mastiffs themselves

...so no chance of tracing her breeding.

The neo(bitch) is around 12 months old I think and she was left in a shed(owner is in prison) but told a family member to get rid of the dog....no one would go and get her because she is such a big dog(understandable) so my mam got a call, she went to collect her and placed her in a foster home...will ask her if she came with any info

The mastiff dog....I think the owners are leaving the country and he has been on mastiff rescues waiting list for over 5 months and the owners have been paying a monthly fee to the rescue....and still no home has come up

hence they are running out of time....so where becoming desperate....I will definatley ask my mam if they have any paper work for him and if they have tried the breeder....and will get back to u

Overall we do try to contact the breeders if we have sufficient paper work/depending on situation dog was presented....and guess what.....not one has offered to take the dogs back

we recently contacted a Malamute breeder to inform them we had one of their bitches....she was 9 months old......they said they could not take her back as they had 2 litters on the go and could not risk taking a strange dog in

they said they gave plenty of advice when they sold the dog and that was enough on their behalf

We also ask the owners if they have contacted the breeders...and most do...with the same sort of reply

We dont generally use breed rescues to be honest as most dont neuter before they re-home....and this is a big concern we have.....if a dog has ended up in a rescue situation...IMO it should not be breed from.....and there are alot of oportuninsts that would take a rescue pedigree for a relativley small donation to breed from it...and no contract will stop them from doing so

I think in regard to buyers not being aware that the breeder will take the dog back....if the breeder made the fact clearly known in a contaract as we do with rescues then surely if the owner does not know its because the breeder didnt mention it or did not make it clear enough in the first place....when we re-home I think I repeat myself about 20 times and read through the whole contract to make sure the adoptee clearly knows the dog has to be returned to us if the need arises..they are also so chipped under the rescue aswell as the new owner....so maybe these breeders need to look into this at the time of sale.
Of course in some cases the buyer may choose not to go back to the breeder....for whatever reason....and this im afraid is something the breeder needs to think about at the time of breeding. nothing is completley traceable.

As u suggested too....some we cant trace at all as they have been abandoned or misstreat, these are dogs thast people have paid a substantial mount of money for....and no owner can be found....again something breeders have to think about at time of breeding...cos it happens unfortunatley

Out of curiosity....what area of the country do you live in?

Reason i ask is my rescue greyhound is starting to feel her age a bit so will be getting another dog in the future!

The bit I still dont get is that if a breeder is kennel club registered, which they have to be in order to register the pups, then under kennel club rules they have to rehome the dogs.

Clearly this rule is not enforced, sadly.

The thing about mastiffs is they look so fierce, so attract the wrong sort of people, yet they are the biggest dopes ever!! And of course the bull mastiff is listed under dangerous dogs, (my English mastiffs arent despite being highly dangerous especially if they sit on you!) so possibly making them more attractive to the wrong people.

As for the breed rescue societies, try rescuing an English Mastiff if you are not a member, or dont know a member, of the inner circle!!! Its also very difficult to find out about any that need rescuing unless you are a member of the right "club"! And you cant be a member of the "right club" unless you are an established breeder/judge etc. I dont know if its the same with Bull Mastiffs! Perhaps this is why you havent had much luck.

Im not saying thats the case with all breed rescues.

We are hoping that we will be able to rescue a mastiff in future and hopefully it will be easier as we have had two already. I daren't mention to my OH that you have two bull mastiffs coming in as he will be up to Durham!! I havent got room in the kitchen for two more beds (despite the pic in my sig they do have a bed each) and god forbid if four of them managed to sneak upstairs onto our bed!!!

And just think of the slobber!!!!

(My mastiffs dont live outside all the time, they are our guard-pets!!!)

But if she is intending to allow them in the house then they shouldnt be allowed upstairs if poss as its really bad for their legs and she would be wise to paint her house magnolia and take out shares in dulux paint!!!

LOL......nowt gets up my mams stairs....all of the rescues stay in the doggi room...not even her own dogs are allowed upstairs bad joint problems or not

She did say that the male mastiff was particurlarly nice when he came into to be castrated
