On box rest - frogs not looking brill for it

My boy is on box rest at the moment probably for another 3 weeks after he fell and hurt his hip just before new year. He was a bit unsteady on three legs before so had to leave his feet a while but he's managing to have them picked out properly now.

He still has decent concavity but his frogs are looking very small. I sprayed with Red Horse Sole Cleanse as that has always done well for us previously. I do also have NT Dry though and wondered if that would be better? I also wondered about putting his hoof boots on for a short while each day with pads in to try and stimulate the frogs.

He is semi-deep littered (dug out once per week) on shavings.
 
I'd see if he's any better if the bed is mucked out fully daily. My boy has been on box rest now for about 12 weeks total, with about 5-6 of those on shavings bed and his frogs and thrush (which had been very stubborn for about 2 years even with treatment) is now almost cleared up. Give it a try. I've found mine gets a bit worse if the bed isn't as clean as it should be really / is damp. Hope this helps. c
 
Yes full skip out daily should improve it, but also add sole paint to you sole cleanse routine, that would work better and longer then the cleanse for a stabled horse!
 
He is walked out twice a day in hand and hopefully we can increase that to three times soon when I'm confident that he won't slip/struggle when I'm leading him in the dark.

Will ask YO about keeping the bed a bit drier and order some Sole Paint too - I used to have some but suspect it got chucked!
 
Keratex make a hoof and leg spray that is pretty good - purple coloured liquid in a clear plastic spray bottle. Can be used as a wash or left on to dry in.
 
I'd give the NT dry a go seeing as you've got it as well as considering changing from deep litter to daily full muckout unless the top of the bed is staying dry as being stood in wet won't help. I personally like the NT dry if you're able to put in on and then put the horse in a stable where it will stay in place long enough to work and have had good results using it this way on a horse on box rest. Sole paint is also supposed to be good for stabled horses. Another option would be to only bed down a corner / small amount at the back of the stable during the day and then bed down fully at night after skipping out. That way horse is getting to stand on a drier surface during the day and has somewhere to wee but still gets the benefit of a full bed at night. This wouldn't work if your horse is needing to lie down a lot or is specifically supposed to have a thick bed though.
 
I had this trouble. 6 months of box test with only once a day walking. Ended up putting hoof grease on hers. Farrier always said they looked fine & she only had a tiny bit of thrush
