Just been channel hopping and found a programme on Yesterday, about dogs trained for use in WWII. Lots of crop eared dobes so far, might be interesting if anyone else can get the channel.

So glad I watched it, very interestingly I had a strong feeling they would want to put the dogs down at the end having been deemed too dangerous to return to civilian life. Thanks god those marines fought for their dogs and it was fascinating only a few failed retraining.

So it is possible for dogs of all ages to be retrained after their intensive training and war participation.

Also I loved the fact that during the war the soldiers often gave their dogs their rations and were afforded the luxury of sleep knowing they were safe with their dogs on guard.

Very interesting yes, like you I found it touching that not only the dog handlers but other soldiers said they were able to get a decent sleep knowing the dogs would warn them of danger.
