Hello

I have been looking at the various on-line training courses and there seem to be a LOT around at the moment.

Have any of you paid for the courses?
Who did you choose?
Why did you choose them?
Did you feel it was money well spent.

Tbh I was looking at the TRT. I had completely ignored it previously as I think I had looked at the videos of the live shows and thought it looked a bit gimmicky/culty and I am not really into that.
However I took my blinkers off and watched some of the stuff and it did make sense. I am finding being stuck at home with an unpredictable youngster a challenge and have had a mental block so I thought something like this may help.

Any opinions ideas? TIA :)

I'm not sure I would pay much for any online training, I would rather spend on an instructor to come and see us live. Whilst I enjoy watching videos of other people and pick up tips, I don't think there is any substitute for eyes on the ground.

I would usually have somebody out, but due to Covid and not having a school at home this would help me to fill gaps and provide motivation in between lessons and being able to get people out/get out.
Online is not something I would have considered before however its about mindset, motivation and looking into why horses do react in certain ways and how to deal with it and when you don't have a support network around you.
Actually I have been looking at some of them and on the surface they seem really well structured which I was quite surprised about.

I see why you are looking at online. Hopefully someone will be able to recommend but in the meantime would it worth posting in c & t for motivational ideas?

I'd be inclined to look at Jason Webb over TRT if an online course is what you're after. Miri Hackett does videos on her Patreon page of groundwork techniques which is only like 5/6 quid a month - might be enough to get you going?

Joe Midgely and Richard Maxwell do online video training and I'm sure with joe there is an option to send videos to get 1 2 1 feedback.

Warwick Schiller has an online programme too and thousands of videos

Has anybody actually used these though and what did you think.
It would be good to get feedback from people who have actually done them and whether it was worth the money etc.

I havent paid for WS but I've watched a lot of his free stuff in YouTube and his H&C series Principles of Training (think it's on youtube too). @LEC knows much more than me about his training. If you search his name on here you'll find a fair bit.

@TheMule was following the TRT programme I believe. Again if your search TRT you'll find a lot of posts.

I've watched some Joe Migely and rate him but havent signed up yet. I'm.going to spectate at a clinic hes holding at the weekend so might sign up after that.

I've seen Richard maxwell live numerous times and seen some of his video footage being shot. Again loads on here if you search his name. The feedback on fb is all positive

Hope that helps

I subscribed to Warwick Schiller for sometime and it was remarkably good, much more in depth than I thought. I can definitely recommend it. If I recall theres a special offer for the first month, so you can see if you can get on with it. I only cancelled when I left work, super easy to cancel, I just got in touch and Robyn (his wife) emailed me back to confirm it was cancelled.

Miri’s videos are similar to what I think the TRT methods are as I’m sure she works with Claire Gallimore

Just to update that I went to watch Joe Midgely yesterday.

Now there's nothing new under the sun when it comes to horse training. The exercises that Joe demonstrated and had the participants doing on the ground and ridden were the same as I've watched numerous times by various different trainers.

He didn't do anything flashy or "impressive" but there was just something about him that I really liked. He interacted with the horses in really positive way, unlike other clinicians I've watched in the flesh, and I wish I could make it back to have seen day 2 of his training.

I can't put into writing what it was but there was something about him, possibly the lack of ego which is prolific in so many "trainers", but I really liked his way.

He's the first trainer ever who's online channel I'm going to subscribe to/pay money for, hopefully, more of the same.
