I saw with interest a piece in this week's H&H news pages about an on-line dressage competition site that's starting up. I was particulary interested as this was the self-same idea that I had myself a few years ago following the foot and mouth outbreak when many events were cancelled. At the time, my suggestion was ridiculed by OH as being a waste of time as he thought that most people who wanted to compete to any decent standard would not be interested.
Needless to say, I took great delight in rubbing his proverbial nose in it!
Anyway, it will be brilliant for both my two. One misbehaved so badly when we did compete him that in the end I gave up and sold my lorry and the other is still quite nappy when the mood takes him and although I'd love to compete him I think the experience would probably finish us both off with stress!
They have their own tests on-line for you to download and give rosettes and prize money. There is a starter test for baby horses and novice riders which has no canter work, an intermediate level one which looks like an easy prelim and an advanced test which is I'd say is an easy novice. They are planning to introduce harder tests depending on the demand. Videos of the tests are also to be available on line for folk to watch, there will be a leader board published on-line, and they intend to use a listed judge. There's even a team event in June!
This will give me something definite to aim for rather than just a vague intention to eventually go out and do something, and provides a perfect excuse to polish and plait the horses - you're meant to dress as for a "proper" show from what I can gather.
I just wondered if anyone else out there is intending to have a go before I dust off my show jacket and posh hat!?
