Hi, I am currently competing my pony at BE100 shes very nice mover but has this horrible habit of running on her forehand! ... I probably havent helped as ive become so used to it!

My question is...what exercises can I do to help get her to move from her hind legs and over her back rather than running on her forehand?

When I jump shes very good over bigger fences as she has to back herself off the fences but over BE100 she runs through the bridle and drags me around. leading to me not being able to stop and taking out fences. Also caused by being on her forehand.

Any help welcome :) Thank you!

Lots and lots and LOTS of transitions, within the pace as well as between paces. Lateral work should also help, but transitions are your main exercise to help get the hind legs more underneath.

Also, it's sometimes easier said than done but you need to ensure that although you are 'there' at the end of the rein, the horse should not be carried by the rider, the horse has to learn to carry herself.

I agree with Fanatical, transitions are your friend, but make sure you ride forwards into your downward transitions especially. Walk/canter/walk will also get their hocks underneath them. It's hard but try not to hold them up, so only have the lightest of contacts when you are schooling, they can get into the habit on relying on you to hold them up!

Ditto above, I also find smallish circles concentrating on using the outside aids really helps my horse carry herself & establish a nicer contact.
