OMG

I actually feel really sick, upset, angry and ashamed that we can do anything like that to any animal. The amount of suffering is horrendous. I am not pro slaughter necessarily, but I am pro vitually ANYTHING that prevents that from happening.

I saw them on fugly earlier, I have a pretty strong constitution but not pleasant, I think it is the severed limbs and eyes which really get me.

They were from a double decker truck weren't they which they are trying to ban?

I couldn't finish them, made me feel sick. Poor babies. I don't agree with slaughter, but i have always disagreed far more strongly with live transport, how can it still be going on?! I've seen some injuries/deaths before, but nothing that horrendous. Isn't slaughter banned in parts of the US making things like this the only way to get horse meat? Idiots.

I've seen footage of them being dispatched before- it's unpleasant and distressing, but only lasts a few seconds at least, not days.

Once again a big round of applause for the fluffy bunny animal rights people. They campaign for something without thinking it through and it actually ends up causing more suffering and pain for the animals. Equine slaughter is needed. Yes, it would be marvellous if every single horse ever born found a fantastic home with little girls to put ribbons in its mane but we live in the real world and personally I'd much rather they went quickly and humanely than shipped for 36 hours on double deckers to unregulated slaughter houses.

A carcass is a carcass. It doesn't really matter what happens to it. But a living animal deserves enough respect to ensure it a humane death.

im going to sound like an ignorant person, and for that im sorry, how can they end up with severed limbs? i could only look at the first 2 pics, and cannot get my head round it all. Its the most disgusting way to treat a living thing, why are they not killed before and travelled on 'the hook' whats the logic/reasoning. Noone in the world can justify the awful state of those poor animals, and if they want to try i want five miniutes with them!!!!!!

The reasoning being that horse slaughter is no longer allowed in the USA, so these poor buggers are shipped all the way to Mexico

am so sorry but WTF, this has to be some mistake, WHY o WHY do that( ets, ban slaughter in the usa)??!!!!!!!!?????? I just dont get it?? Im not a fluffy bunny hugger i just cannot see how this can be deemed as acceptable!!

God forbid that the "Do-Gooders" EVER get a big enough voice over here to shut our few, precious Abattoirs.

Shocking...this is exactly what happens when people truely believe, no, FANATICALLY believe that to slaughter horses is wrong.

Shameful.......

Mairi those pictures were truly shocking. I wish I had never viewed them now as I feel like throwing up

Those poor, poor horses. I have read about the situation in the US before and seen images and footage of horses taken to Mexico, but have never seen anything as graphic and horrifying as seen in the link.
I can only echo other people's sentiments on this matter and say that abbatoirs do need to exist. The closure of such places which then leads to horses ( and in some cases other animals) being travelled further in order to be slaughtered is ethically wrong.
What these 'do-gooders' are doing is prolonging the suffering of the animals ( including equines). They are not saving them.
I may not like the idea of eating horse meat and won't do it personally but it is a practise that won't be stopped no matter how much people like myself may not like it.
Therefore the only 'good' we can do for these equines and any other animals that are slaughtered is to ensure that they are raised correctly and travelled and slaughtered humanely.
I am against the long distance transportation of animals for slaughter and have been even before I had my own horses.
I fully support the 'on the hook not on the hoof' campaign by the WHW. If we cannot stop horses being slaughtered for meat then we should be campaigning fully for these equines ( and other animals) to be slaughtered as near to their origin as possible and not for them to be transported thousands of miles often in terrible conditions which contravene the animals' welfare. Better if they are to be slaughtered for them to be moved around for miles in wagons as carcasses than as a living breathing animals with their senses fully engaged to feel pain, fear, hunger, thirst, claustrophobia and anxiety.
It is sheer bloody madness!
I echo JM07's sentiments too and say that I hope these so called 'do gooders' don't ever find a voice loud enough in this country to shut down the abattoirs.
I feel it is our duty as horse lovers to prevent this from happening. These bunny huggers need their heads seriously bashing against a lamppost. They need to wake up and see the bigger picture. They won't be saving horses lives. Instead they will be making the lives of those equines destined for slaughter more unbearable. Jeez I wish these people could see sense!

That is so awful to see.
Made me feel quite sick. Those poor ponies suffering that.
Wonder how long and far they have to travel before they are put out of their misery...

Hmm, me thinks I shall not watch the link after reading the responses. I still haven't fully recovered from seeing images of dogs being skinned alive in china (i'll never get that image of the skinned and still live dog looking at the camera out of my head) so i think seeing horses suffering in the ways described above would send me over the edge. Gets me far to angry and upset. I think it's disgusting anybody can see this as acceptable.

Oh dear, I braved it i looked. Just shocking. The look on that last horses face is heartbreaking, like it has just accepted the situation.

Have not looked at the pictures, don't want to feel sick! BUT can only echo the people who are saying that this is the responsibility of those who campaigned for an end to slaughter in the USA. I normally agree with FUGLY, but not on this one. Thank goodness for regulated horse slaughterers.

Skinning dogs alive, WTF!!!! why, ahhhhh all this makes me feel so mad and sick, those poor horses (and any other animal that has to suffer cos of stupid humans) I dont see how hard it is for the government to change the transporting rules.

Only savages eat horse flesh ..... have no soul or respect for what horses have done for mankind, dogs, cats and horses are our servants and our companions, and deserve better....
Europe still isn't as civalised as it could be ... but hey maybe if they have as many 100s of years stabilty we had
things will improve...

Oh god

I could only watch the first few, this isn't right, those poor poor horses.

String the bloody bunny huggers up like this and see how they get on with a journey lasting however long before they can finally be put out of pain. Shut the abbatoirs?? You silly silly people - LOOK at what repercussions your actions have. Those horses blood and suffering is on the bunny huggers hands.

I feel quite sick.

Sorry but that made me throw up. Trying to compose myself. It was the little foal just standing there that made me start to cry, but the one with its eyes missing etc just turned my stomach.

Please can you alter the original post to say just how horrific the pictures are? I wish I hadn't seen them. I'm not a 'head in the sand' type but that is too much gore for me even though the horror of the situation does need to be highlighted.

Oh my god, I feel gutted, really gutted.

I still see the image of that poor dog skinned and just sitting there. I thought it was dead until it blinked. Awful just too sad for words.
I looked at the link, should have known better really. I wanted to see for myself what happens. what cruelty!!!! this should not happen in this day and age. For gods sake how can human beings let this happen? Their fate is death, but why let them suffer so horribly first. Live long transportation to abattoirs should be banned all over the world.

Eating horse, dog or cat is no different to eating cow, lamb or chicken. Its about preference. I am not opposed to any animal being eaten but treat it with respect and allow the life it does have and its final journey to be humane.
