On the prowl for a new quality rug.... decisions!

Thank you , seems to be very mixed opinions on the PE's. I may hold off and see if they have a good Black Friday sale and get one then . I'm not convinced they're worth the money now ! Unfortunately Rambos are out of my price range still , unless I get a good price in a sale . Argh ! I really don't know now :(. Was in my local Decathlon today and they do their own brand rugs , has anyone tried them ?

Yeah I never get why when someone says 'I need a cheap but decent rug, no rambos as they are out of price range' that most of the subsequent posts are for Rambos.

http://www.equestrian-tack-shops.co...Combo-350G-Fill-1200-Denier-Turnout-Horse-Rug <-- I have this rug for my horse, 350g, 1200 denier, £44.

http://www.equestrian-tack-shops.co...ombo-Turnout-Horse-Rug-1680-Denier-Fixed-Neck <-- 500g rug, 1680 denier, £85.99. I was going to buy this when he lived on a Scottish mountain, but he doesnt anymore so doesnt need it.

Lots of other rugs too for cheap prices. Way cheaper than Rambo, PE, Weatherbeeta etc. Same quality, cheaper price.

I've just bought two PE rugs (Blankets in US speak) because the drop in the pound against the $ made them cheaper to buy even with shipping than the outdoor blankets I usually buy here.
Weight wise they were exactly what I expected them to be and the horse's I bought them for were out all day in them yesterday in non stop snow and sleety rain and the material didn't absorb any of it so they definitely weren't heavy when wet
They're a much better style and fit than the Weatherbeeta and easily as good as the Rambo's so better value for money than they are

I like PE rugs but they are very heavy and I have found the necks in particular tend to lose their velcro. I still have one, only because it was bought second hand and a total bargain for a Trio - I wouldn't buy again new.

I have a heavyweight Fal for my other horse - it was bought for him when out on loan and kindly donated by the loaner when he came back. He has lived out in it through harsh winters, with his whole body clipped, and it has been brilliant. I would get another of these (as in link below). Mine has an integrated neck but this version seems to have a detachable one.

I've always found Mark Todd rugs good. Not too pricey, very waterproof and don't get heavy when wet. Wychanger Saddlery often have them in the sale.
