To be honest I didn't even read the blurb, just saw the photos of the zebra in hand at a show and thought how bizarre. Aren't there enough types of horses out there already? Somehow it doesn't seem dignified, a little, to my mind, like lions and tigers jumping through hoops in circuses years ago. This all came about because of something I read on another forum about the NH (Ross and Heather Simpson) people having to get permission to have a herd of zebras on their land in Wales. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wales/south_west/6945782.stm
No Jags, the foal did not go with its' Mum. From what I can gather they are taken off the mare very early, and bottle/bucket reared with a pony foal. They seem to do quite intensive training, one was pictured at a first show (by herself) at two weeks old. I may have read that wrongly, but I am sure they said WEEKS in the text.
A trained yearling (lunges, and has carried a saddle and harness, it said in the spiel) apparently will go for $16,000.
Actually I have no problem with the saddle bit, as mine will have had rugs and a saddle on her back before her first birthday too.
