On the topic of hi viz.... pink or yellow?

Yellow I think, but mainly as its used alot as a warning sign ie builders, road workers etc so we are used to seeing it as something to avoid!

I'd rather yellow, cos it goes slightly better than pink with my chestnut mare

Am pretty positive I have read a report that pink is actually better than yellow when hacking on roads - cannot remember the thoughts behind it tho!

[/ QUOTE ] I've heard that too - but seems to conflict with the evidence of my own eyes!

Yellow is the first colour to register in the brain. i also think it makes people think "Police" and not "Barbie".

I think that they're all more visible then a dark-coloured T shirt or jacket so they're all good.

They can't miss us - both go out like blackpool illuminations and in moxed colours

I'd rather look like a prat on the horse than a prat draped over a car!

I'd say yellow, purely because the only colour it is legal to wear when working on roads is yellow - orange is reserved for railways.

It is also only legal if you wear something long sleeved with a minimum of 2 bands round the sleeves.

This is all for working on roads BTW, (motorway work in fact), not for riding horses etc!

If it's good enough for when I work on motorways, then it is good enough for riding my horse!

That was always my understanding too! I personally find that hacking down country lanes (with lush green hedges either side) that in bright sunlight even yellow can blend with the bright greens you see in the hedges whereas pink does not.

I think the reason why yelloe is more common is because most of the builder, workmen etc that you see wearing them are men and I don't think pink would go down that well! They also tend to wear them in more built up areas not surrounded by hedges and trees!

Thanks for all the replies. I normally hack out with a pink tabbard and books on my horse and ready for winter I am about to spend out on a reflective exercise sheet... was just wondering if I should get yellow or pink, But think I'll njust get pink.

I also understood that pink was more visible than yellow, but I'm not wearing pink

I bought pink, then was told that I shouldn't wear pink at my age (I was 35 at the time). I think there's some truth in this as I did feel an idiot in pink and changed to yellow!

If you're young, think pink, If you know who Marti Pellow is, wear Yellow!

i have yellow as i have a gelding & im not a pink person, he is black so yellow stands out really well on him. when we leave the yard we have to go up a hill with trees one side & hedge the other & when people ride with yellow or pink on its the yellow that stands out

yes i read that. It was something to do with there being loads more vivid yellow plants and trees than pink ones, therefore if you hack in lanes, suburbs pink stands out better.

We do pink!
