.... put a different rider on board?

I have just broken in my 3yo and the plan is to just very lightly work him through the winter.

I have been the one riding him so far and will be in the future however a good friend of mine makes sure her youngsters regularly get ridden by a selected few different people as she believes horses shouldn't get too used to just one person on their backs

So what do you guys do?

When do you introduce a new rider and how often (if at all) do you think a young hose should be ridden by someone else?

Have only been involved in a few backings. They both had various riders early on, but only very quiet and calm ones. TBH think it is a good idea for most horses to get used to different people. The owner of both horses also insisted that the people had done at least a little groundwork with the horses as would never want someone the horse didn't at least semi recognise on them. Seems a sensible thing to insist to me tbh.

Good luck with your youngster

not at any particular stage really, well if a horse seems to be behaving well then il let some one else ride it out depending on their ability and confidence

i don't think that's necessary. one mare i bred, no-one else rode her until i retired her from eventing and sold her as a hack/light dressage at the age of 14. she was absolutely perfect for her new rider and has never put a foot wrong.
if the rider isn't too experienced, i'd say that being ridden by a more experienced rider would be good for the horse, but if you know what you're doing, then i wouldn't worry at all about being the sole rider.

Love the siggy I!

Er personally I'll be very careful who goes on Rhi, it doesn't take alot to ruin a young horse. When we backed Relli another girl had one hack on him but when he was actually broken nobody rode him until people came to try him 2 years later and he was fine.
