...you could buy a nice basic but quilted numnah with a bit of extra padding on the wither for just under a tenner.

Now I know my last numnah purchase was 5 years ago but the price of them now astounds me...best part of £15 for something not quilted let alone a bit extra on the wither. Methinks the manufacturers have also got the tack shops wrapped round their little fingers as the more expensive versions are all many of them seem to sell these days

I feel like a princess who's been asleep for a couple of hundred years and missed the gradual price hike!
 
I remember the days when you could buy a numnah which was quilted on the top side and towelling on the under side, which was great for the horse's comfort on a hot day, or fast ride.
I sometimes wonder if fashion is a greater driving force than practicality/comfort in tack and accessories.
