I'm looking for public liability cover at the moment and this seems like a good deal. Haven't come across it before so not sure if it's new? Includes 30% off some brands that I'd probably use.

Can any insurance buffs tell me what they think to it and how it compares to, say, BHS Gold Membership type insurance? It appears to be cheaper but does that mean I'm missing a catch somewhere?

Thanks in advance!

My third party is with the BHS, and they covered me even when I had a loan horse here to have a play with, and covers my horse when competing etc. and when being ridden by other people. This is from the Harry Hall site...

Recreational riding and ownership of horses/ponies; including local gymkhanas, unaffiliated dressage and jumping shows. All other activities excluded.

The maximum number of horses/ponies owned by an individual member being 2, of which they are the registered owner or have a loan/share agreement in force.

The maximum number of horses/ponies owned by all members on the family membership being 3, and one of the family members must be the registered owner of the horses/ponies or have a loan/share agreement in force.
Riding horses that aren’t owned by you.

I guess if you have 3 horses r less for a family, or 2 horses, or have a loan agreement (I did not - it was done on old fashioned trust and a handshake), only compete unaffiliated and don't hunt and have a legal helpline elsewhere then yes, it would be cheaper.

Its also only half the total claim limit at £10M; compared to £20M for BHS and £30M from pony club. Its a lot of money for a relatively low level of cover.

It is worth remembering that when you take out BHS membership you are supporting a charity as well as getting your insurance. The BHS has been campaigning hard on a number of topics relevant to many equestrians. The 'Dead Slow' road safety campaign is ongoing and won the 'Drivers Education Award' from the Driving Instructors Institute last year. The fight for fair business rates for equestrian businesses is also ongoing. The 2026 bridleways campaign is taking a lot of work. All of these are supported by membership fees, donations and fundraising.

There are few additional benefits to BHS Gold membership, obviously some of these are more use to some people than others.
A free ticket to RHIS
Free or discounted entry to Royal Windsor (depending on which day you go)
10% off at the BHS bookstore
Legal helpline
Local teams of volunteers with a wide range of knowledge on access, welfare, education, safety and road safety
Expert teams at HQ to help with issues in access, welfare, education, safety and road safety.
Local events
6 magazines a year with information on the BHS's work as well as articles and schooling suggestions.
As well as the liability insurance.

(I volunteer with The BHS and I am an Accredited Professional Coach)

Hello! I do some work for Harry Hall so please allow me to clarify..
Harry Hall One Club insurance is ideal for the leisure rider who owns and/or rides mainly for pleasure and does not cover you for hunting, cross country schooling and so on, as explained above.
The £10m public liability cover is a really excellent level of Public Liability and Personal Liability package, underwritten by leading and well regarded firms, at a really good price, and in our discussions with lawyers in the equestrian field they've been really impressed with this membership. The £40 a year also entitles members to 30% off ALL products made by ALL Harry Hall's sister brands, all year round — including Masta, Caldene, Tottie, Cottage Craft, Woofmasta etc.
Finally, Harry Hall One Club members will be offered first refusal of tickets to exclusive events we run, such as the Harry Hall Yard Visit series in which we take small parties to meet top riders at their yards to learn what methods, kit and so on they swear by.

The BHS membership is pretty different, as you point out, and of course you are supporting a brilliant charity at the same time, and one that is close to the heart of all at Harry Hall. Ours works well from the retail savings alone: no doubt there will be some (like me!) who will want to join both. More details at www.harryhall.com/oneclub
If anyone has further queries about the insurance please feel free to call 0345 450 7884
With thanks!
