Recently had the Saddle Fitter out to check Tylers saddle. She felt it was too narrow and could see some problems with the muscle wastage underneath where the saddle site.

Got him fitted with a Thorowgood T4 and felt really good about it. Had it fitted at wide and 17.5inches.

Now someine has told me that the saddle fitters I used made alot of mistakes when fitting a few horses at their yard resulting in problems with the horses back. It is a well known saddle company and I felt I got a good service. I am a novice owner so not really qualified to say if the saddle definately fits, but the fiter gave me a demonstration which I felt I understood. Now I am slightly worried in case I have made the situation worse and caused more problems.

Am I just being paraniod (for want of a better word?) or should I get it checked again?

hmmm I'd be inclined to get a second opinion, especially if the saddler in question has been known to make mistakes. At the very least it will confirm you have the right saddle, at the worst, you might be able to go back to the original saddlers with a complaint...

It doesn't matter what saddle you have or what fitter you have there is always somebody who has had a bad experience with it or them!

If you feel you've got a good service, you are comfortable with the saddle and there are no signs of it moving, slipping, rubbing etc then you should be okay. If you are not sure you could get a physio out to check his back now and again in say 4 weeks or so to ensure that it is not doing any damage.

Maybe get your instructor to have a quick look? I can understand why you are concerned, especially as you say you are a novice owner. However people do have different opinions on quality of service. I trust my farrier, saddler, dentist, vet etc. but I am sure there are people out there who would say negative things about them.

the saddler I've used was raved about as brilliant by one person on my yard, then poo pooed by another for being ignorant. As it was, they did a good job by my horse. You can only go by whether the saddle fits your horse. Get someone to take a look who doesn't have a view on the saddler in question. This should put your mind at rest.

I am sure we only have horses so we can have something to worry about! Have some experienced horsey people cast their eyes over the saddle.
