As some of you might be aware i recently had a litter of JRT's and am keeping one bitch from the litter.
Currently (or before pups at least) Piglet had a medium sized crate which she loved and this was her 'bed'
My dilema is do i put her and puppy into the one crate or seperate crates?
I still have a small crate piglet had when she was tiny so i can put Pumpkin in that but i wondered if she would prefer being in with her mum.
Also if i do crate the two of them together do you think i should get the next size crate up (large 36'')?

I would say one crate so they can snuggle up together

Put them in seperate otherwise mum's got to sleep in whatever mess puppy might leave. Also pup and mum will need their own space until pup is old enough to appreciate mum's space. You don't want her snapping at the pup when you're not about.

Definitely 2 crates.
You don't want pup getting used to always being wth mum, pup will need to learn to stand on his own 4 paws!
You should do lots and lots of things with pup without mum

I would say 2 for now, so u can train her, and learn her to feel comfortable in her own company until she begins to mature, also mum, has to be able to get some peace, chances are puppy will be pestering the life out of her for play.
I would allow them to be crates as one, when she is less bouncy half trained puppy and more mature fully trained puppy-adult

My two (in sig) are in one crate, 36" but they were a bit older when they went in together. They are brother and sister, but different litters. They do like to curl up together, and will do so whether in the crate or not. Because they haven't always been together, you can separate them quite happily if need be, for example to take one to the vet - not sure that would be quite so easy if they had been together from pups.

Hmm two crates it is for now then. Mum is still bonkers herself and is desperate to play with the puppies like she does with her dog friends but they are still too small. She is fed up with sharp puppy teeth on her lady bits tho, im yet to hear her growl etc at them.
I took Piglet to training classes (3 sets of 8weeks) and we learnt clicker training etc. I think ill book the new puppy in too as it really made a difference with piglet.

My bitch had 8 pups 5 months ago and I kept 2 from the litter, "i know mad" I just have one crate for 1 pup, I have never used a crate before, never felt the need, but I must say its great for one of my pups who is completely mad and would just turn the house upside down if she was left, even though she was still left with her mum & brother she would go mad, but she seems to like her cage, and even sleeps in it when im home and the doors open, its her little comfort zone, and she has no problems being in there on her own when I go out.
