Hello All,

Not been hunting for nealry 8 years now. My cob x is well behaved (mostly) and seemed to enjoy it in the past. However last year had her right eye removed. Shes fully fit now and not spooky. Do you think she would be ok to hunt if so is there any warnings I can give to people to warn them of her visial impairment :p

Thanks!

One of our masters horse has no right eye. -Its fine.
- Why would everyone else need to know? its not green or a kicker? Its your job as the rider to watch out for the horse. I know a horse one eyed who evented - didnt like nearside corners much as couldnt judge them so used to climb them...That said it never stopped Cresida Clague-Readings eventer (cant remember its name) but was brill at hickstead grand prix etc

Know of several horses who hunt happily with one eye inc a whips horse!
Personally i wouldnt worry about warning people if the horse is steady.
You could use a green ribbon which traditionally warns of a novice horse but covers any unpredicatable behaviour and a ribboned tail usually gets more room ;-)

You can wear an armband (I think its white) to warn of visial impairment, but not sure if 'others' would understand the symbolism of it.

But as an owner of a one eyed horse I have never had any problems with it as long as you steer well.

Thanks everyone, shes nearly 18 now however thinks shes 4 so should still have some go if I just do half a day.

Good to know theres other one eyd hunters out there too!! :)

I took my one-eyed mare hunting for the first time recently. It caused no problems at all, she was brilliant. As a newcomer to hunting and going by myself it also provided an excellent talking point to break the ice!
