Daughter will be 16 next year. In theory she could take her tractor test and get a full licence for the tractor. I'm assuming full tractor licence = can tow a trailer behind the tractor. Does this mean she could therefore tow the horse trailer with her pony in it by herself once she has a full tractor licence? Or ?? Can't find the small print.

Can't see why not, she can pull a trailer with a tractor, that would include livestock trailers. At 16 she would be restricted on the size of the tractor and the trailer, though.

I have not dealt with this before so had to search for the answers ......
No legal reason why the trailer cannot be a horse trailer

https://www.gov.uk/learning-to-drive-a-tractor-or-specialist-vehicle/age-limits

*If you’re 16 you can only drive tractors less than 2.45 metres wide and tow trailers less than 2.45 metres wide with 2 wheels, or 4 wheels close-coupled (close together).

Driving tests for tractors and specialist vehicles = https://www.gov.uk/learning-to-driv...ng-tests-for-tractors-and-specialist-vehicles

Category F, G, H or K vehicles

The examiner will give you instructions at the side of the road and watch how you:
drive as you go around left and right circuits
turn round using forward and reverse gears

For very slow vehicles, like pedestrian-controlled vehicles, your examiner may walk near you where they can watch your driving.

You’ll also have an eyesight test and at the end of the category F, G, H or K test, you’ll be asked 5 questions on the Highway Code and other motoring matters. You’ll then be asked to identify 6 different traffic signs.

From that lot it seems that the test is done only with the tractor and on passing a trailer can be towed without doing a tractor and trailer test - no provision for doing such

It seems that there is no F+E category - only F which covers trailer

Will make things easy to do B+E after passing B

I believe you can't tow a hose trailer with a tractor as the horse is 'private' the tractor is business, I think you could argue the case if the tractor was on white diesel but definitely NOT when using red diesel & what farmer is going to put white diesel in their tractor for a horse!

I too find it ridiculous that I can drive a massive tractor and trailer down the the road but not a car and horse trailer!

It's extremely silly our friend drives huge tractors and trailers and 7,5 ton truck but I have to drive him out hunting .
He's going to do the biggest HGV test next and that fixes the issue .

So its just on the colour of the diesel then?

The use of red diesel is restricted to agricultural vehicles doing agricultural stuff, including transporting livestock, horses (other than working horses) are not considered livestock, so you would have to use road diesel, yes, but it has nothing to do with driving licence.
