I noticed last night that my mare had a slightly filled right hind. It is filled from about half way between the hock and fetlock downwards. It is not hot and she looks sound (although i find hind limb lameness very hard to detect!). The swelling is not that easily detectable as my mum and husband can hardly tell, but I know that it is slightly thicker than the other hind! We did go jumping on sunday and she hooned round the field on Saturday. I lunged her last night and it was not any worse afterwards and probably marginally better. Any ideas? Would you cold hose or rest?

My mare had this the other day as well. She had it before I was told by the vet it can be allergies as the toxins go to the legs and cause swelling. I walk her for a bit and the swelling goes down. I think she sleeps on this leg as this leg is the only one that gets puffy!

Same thing - antibiotics from vet as raised temp. Then all other legs came up in sympathy, and went down in varying stages; like you was told allergy probable or mild lymphangitis. She lives out 24:7 and has Baileys Lo cal. odd!

Thanks for your replies - sounds like she's not the only one and hopefully i don't need to worry about it too much. I guess I just need to keep an eye on it then and see what happens. I'll take her temp tonight too!
