doesn't sound like a big deal at all, but this one was very very red underneath and seeping!! i competly cleaned her leg and put sudacream on it always helps her! you should of seen her face when i was rubbing it in she looked so relieved her ears just flopped and her lips we wobbling she looked in paradise! it must hav been bugging her for ages. will keep a close close CLOSE eye on it tho don't want any nasty infections or anythin, she seems much happier now tho! i thought she would be in pain or somethin clearly not

im glad to hear im not the only one who is suffering with a horse with mud fever. hes neve had it before and i kept treating it when it was small, and it kept growing, and he had loads! im now managed to get tothe bottom of it! its horrible, its still weeping puss, but on the inside of the leg now, whereas the mud fever is on the outside of the leg, from the fetlock up 3/4 of the cannon. poor boy

Its the best thing for it - for the scabs to come off that is, stops the bacteria from spreading, just try and soften the scabs, i use warm water witth hibbiscrub, working the solution in til the scabs soften and come off easily, then dry and add your chosen cream, I use gold label mud gaurd and fingers crossed we are mud fever free at the moment, with 16 white legs on the yard its hard work!

Best thing to get the scabs off nicely is to put some sudocreme or similar on the legs, wrap them in cling film for about an hour and then the scabs will be very soft and will just wipe away.

Unbelievable the amount of horses with mud fever this time of year. Damned weather. One of ours looked like she may have a spot of it - and on a black leg rather than her white sock...

my new loan horse has had two/three scabs for ages, tried lots of potions (his owner even sent me with some from the vet which hasnt made too much difference really). Any miracle cures guys? - dont seem to bother him too much and lately its been dry so they are getting better, but wanted to clear it before the winter.

Keep hearing conflicting views on turnout socks etc, and what creams to use, just want to help him get it gone!!

My youngster got mud fever, having never had it before through whatever wintery conditions he's been out in, and even though I was treating it, it blew up overnight intp full blown lymphangitis...poor boy is now on lots of antibiotics, bute and lotsa lotions and potions. The Net Tex Muddy Marvel cream is fab however...working on his smaller spots beautifully!
