I saw the video at Olympia and just think this is fantastic, it could prevent so many injuries...and embarrassments....

*Disclaimer. I have nothing whatsoever to do with Libbys, just think this product is ace!*

Eh...I think you'd be better off learning to ride first? Like, rising trot?

It's basically a tool to stop you taking due caution and thinking 'oh wait, maybe I shouldn't do this jump on a spooky horse who's obviously strong as ridden in a double UNTIL I can rise to the trot'

I'm not the guy in the vid....he's the director of the company I think and he was showing his trust in the device by getting on that horse when he's not a fantastic rider.....not sure why you've taken such offense to my post but maybe it was just better for you not to post....

Oh and YOU may be a perfect rider and never fall off but I know plenty of people who come off over the head....even top riders...

It just doesn't stop him jabbing horsey in the mouth like holding onto a neckstrap with hands nice and low so you can balance better would!

Don't get me wrong, I'm a bad rider with a spooky horse but I only learned good hands through her sensitive mouth.

No I know you're not the guy in the vid!
Ah dear, for clarification, my tongue was firmly in my cheek as I am a perpetual novice, I just think from the horse's perspective, this is out of line...

I have to admit, I really don't like the marketting for it. One way to mess with an already spooky horse!

It does look like some thought has gone into it, and I'm sure would save some tumbles, but seems very expensive for what it is!

Not sure you would get away with it at shows though, and one of the pictures has a show jacket on the rider

I think it would be fine for jumping, I like to hook my fingers into a balance strap or neck strap, particularly at a ditch or trying to persuade b that he can jump into water, this gadget is quite clever, because I could carry it in my hand the whole time, rather than have to think to grab it.

neck straps are allowed in prelim, don't know about balance straps or these, but don't see why not if neck straps are.

Surely they would be ok for sj & xc.

i think it has too much length to really keep an unbalanced novice seated, an actual balance strap would be better for that.

ETS......£40!!!!!!!
blush.gif
perhaps not, you can just clip a shortened leadrope onto a normal balance strap - hey presto!!.

I think there is too much length to the strap to be really helpful, a balance strap or neck strap usually seems to help slightly wobbly riders, or those with young/unpredictable horses.

I did feel a bit sorry for the horse in the vid, it must have thought the world was out to get it!
grin.gif

I really don't like it, I would prefer people just learned to ride on safe sensible horses and took the falls when and if they came.

If you are riding a horse you don't fell 100% on then just chuck a stirrup leather round the neck or bailer twine between the D's. If you really needed a product like that then you should get another horse!

Oh and the man in the video should not have been riding in a double reined pelham if he's that cr@p.

hmm, i can't help thinking this will give a false feeling of confidence. you can still be dropped by an athletic, naughty, determined horse even if you are secure, experienced, ready for it, and holding onto a neckstrap... i know this from grim experience! (i had one of mine do it so fast i didn't even know which door i came out of, the witch!)
this wouldn't keep you on. at best it would mean you rotated around your fixed, grasping hand (cos it is human nature to grab and hold with hands in extremis) which would at least mean you were less likely to land on your head...
i think this might make the arm and shoulder very stiff too, not ideal.

Not only is tha devise irritating, but the horse has got an ill fitting synthetic saddle on with no numnah and no stirrup treads in the stirrups....

Not going to be buying a saftey device from people who dont have treads in their stirrups, it doesnt exactlly instill confidence!

His discription of fitting was to take the stirrup leather out of the stirrup IRON!!!! Not the stirrup bar
smile.gif
smile.gif
although he said it correctly the second time
smile.gif

I think its just another gadget to make money...... cant see it being particularly useful ..... but then I cant use a monkey strap or a neck strap either..... by the time I am falling off, I am off
grin.gif
Nothing would keep me on
smile.gif

I think people sit and invent things for the sake of it...... if its novel it will sell to a certain extent
smile.gif

I do not like the nature of the video as the horse is clearly under stress
mad.gif
. I don't think it is the best way to market a product by scarring the life out of the poor horse
mad.gif
. I also agree with earlier post that the strap does seem to be a bit long
confused.gif
and it only seems affective when you are dragging on the horses mouth because the strap is to long.

A neck strap would be just as effective for help with balance, but to be honest i wouldn't go out and buy it as i think it would be a waste of money
crazy.gif
, but this is just my own personal view.
smile.gif

PMSL!!

what a waste of money..

i really must try to think up something and market it at the "i'll buy anything" types..

I think it could be useful as a confidence giver in someone who can already ride, but has lost their confidence.
I don't know why people are objecting to the marketing. The guy is trying to demonstrate his ability to stay in the saddle when he obviously isn't a brilliant rider! and sell his product (very over priced though., you could make a home made version)

After all, people often use umbrellas etc in trying to bombproof their neds.
Bless that poor cob!

Erm... slightly off topic, I have no stirrup treads in my stirrups. They are the type that don't need them as they have little spikes in them to stop your foot slipping. Have ridden like it for 4 years... I didn't want treads.....

I prefer to put a breastplate on my beastie when she's feeling "well". I find monkey straps pull me forward out of my seat, the neck strap tends to wander up her neck, whereas the breast plate or mane (on occasion) is much better for me to grab than me pulling her in the mouth when shes being a baggage..

I was going to post the same thing - the strap looks far too long to be of much use. I don't ride with my reins as long as that chap in the demo video, and why would I want to throw the reins up my horse's neck to manage to get any stability from the thing, if it shied?

Exactly!

See when horsey spooks on the path where the dog jumps out? First time I watch this I shouted 'sh*t' out loud as I had visions of horsey's legs sliding from under him...
poor poppet.
