One Person Horse?

The one I've just sold I'd say is a one person horse. Not really through riding but just handling. He was a very bolshy horse when I bought him, I mean horrid! Took me a year of hard work to earn his proper respect and then he turned into this lovely horse who I formed the closest bond ever with! I sadly sold him a month ago but he was returned shortly after as they couldnt cope (he'd reverted back to his terrible ground manners!). He seriously tests new people basically! I made this VERY clear to the new owners though so Im hoping they'll work through it and he'll be great for them as well eventually!

It sounds like he's just a young horse who got overloaded, but it could just be clash with that particular person rather than anybody except you? My friend's mare was always a complete cow with me but fine with anybody else while my old boy who was normally very forward going and a bit of a nutter (in a good, fun way!) would refuse to move for my friend but was fine with anybody else! I think he was coming out in sympathy with me as her horse was nasty to me!

Other than riding / scholing him, how much time do you spend TRAINING your horse? how much groundwork do you do with him and how much respect...(and subsequently trust) does he have for you? If you want others to ride him you have to train him how to behave whilst ridden by anyone. We only reap what we sow.

I spend a lot of time on the ground, a lot of time freeschooling, a lot of time taking him for walks in hand, a lot of time grooming and A LOT has gone into his ground manners. When I got him he was a bolshy, stubborn baby with no spacial awareness and no coordination of his own four feet. Now he is well mannered, respectful, moves back when asked, trots up, leads well, free schools nicely, lunges nicely. etc.etc. It's rather presumptious seeing as you know nothing other than whats written in this post to just assume I've done no groundwork.

Yeap mine will let others ride him aslong as not male. But following last weeks jumping everyone said he was a different horse with my friend jumping him and not in a good way in 3 classes 6 refusals !!!!!
