One person horse?

Had Ty's new sharer hack out with me today - I rode mangobiscuits boy. all was going well until another horse passed on the downs....he went phsyo and reared straight up! On the way back he got so het up and was threatening to rear at the traffic lights - bloody nightmare ride!

Got back to the stables and took him in the school - as I got on him i could feel the adrelaline levels go down and we had a short session which went really well.

now I hate it when people say 'he never does that with me' but although we've had our moments he's never gone straight up with me ever - he's done it with other people though.

not sure if it's due to me being a cr@p rider or whether he just prefers me on his back......someone said it may be because he's blind and just puts his trust in me.....

anyone experienced this before?

Oh dear. Glad no-one was hurt. Good job on getting back on him i the school - just so he realises rearing doesn't mean go straight home. Everybody's horses seem to be rearing up at the moment..Mine haven't yet!! *Fingers crossed they don't* =]
Mine have had their moments out though, so I can't be a 'he doesn't do that with me'
One of my cobs is like that though. She has to adjust to another rider as she's only had the same person rider on her most of her life. She gets a bit backy and you feel all her muscle tense, but after a while she settles.

So was I - I had a dream last night that I got into the yard and someone said 'I'm so sorry but Ty died in the field' so when that kicked off my first thought was 'please don't fall off and my horse disappear' then I just worried about the guy riding him.

Feel really bad about the whole thing but it's just weird that now I know his quirks he seems alot better with me (touch wood). I think in that situation I would have kicked him on - even into a canter just to get him moving forward......
 
My friend has a rescue horse that had been quite badly whipped. It is fine(ish) with her; I went to ride it one day, I did one lap of the school and it reared vertically 4 times. I didnt do anything to cause it and I dont know if it would have done it gain as I got off very quickly (my hat didnt fit!)

Thats like no help at all..... But sounds like a similar scenario! I do know I have a tendency to wind up the majority of hot horses I ride for no reason what so ever...
 
The guy was a nice little rider though - not handy or anything.....I think perhaps he was a bit tense though and ty just felt it?

I have a girl who rides him occasionally and we seem to be the only ones that get that well with him......although she's never hacked him out.
 
Just told my dad what happened and I've had the usual 'that horse is a waste of space sell him' rant....

arrggggghhhhh just what i need!
 
Glad he settled down at home - maybe he's a woman only ride? Or the guy was a little tense

Hope you find someone for him, and dont sell him
 
Ty will definitely trust you more and feel more confident because of your history together.

However, I remember reading posts you have made regarding equally scary behaviour out hacking so I wouldn't fret that he isn't happy with his new sharer...
 
Yea maybe. I didnt realise it was a dude. My pony gets mega upset with men, cant have male vets or anything. The only man that has ever ridden him was put on the floor (given the pony had already put me on the floor twice in the previous half an hour, but nonetheless!)

Possibly a weight difference & general dislike of men?
 
I hate it when people do the whole he never does that with me speech too. Fudge has never bucked with me, he has with other people, even bucked three times in a row, span round then dropped his shoulder with one girl to get her off. The worst he's never done with me is a bit of napping when on his own and jogged a couple of times recently, all in all he's pretty good for me

Completely- thing is I make sure that I don't get ourselves in those situations now - ie overfeeding/little exercise/riding him in places he hasn't been with other horses first on his own so fingers crossed I'd put that all behind us!
 
our horse is pretty much a one person horse, i have ridden him and hes been fine but i spend a lot of time on the ground with him, one of ashleighs friends has ridden him and he spent the whole time taking the P big time! two of ash's instructors have got on him and he didnt like it but because they are very good riders he didnt try anything on with them, he was just pulling faces and generally didnt like them on his back.
 
Could be trust issues. C's horse is an absolute angel with her and me, but apparently tried to kill the Bossy Old Fart AND her husband (I still find this hard to believe!).
She and I are of the opinion that he didn't appreciate the rougher bloke-handling.
Antifaz is an angel now, but he did try to hurt me on more than one occasion. Again, I think it's trust issues. Some horses are just like that.
 
I can't risk his safety or Ty's though so I'm going to tell him that it's just not worth the risk. Think I'll just have to wait until someone really competent comes along.

At the end of the day, when I got him he was in a sorry state and had no energy so I could get my confidence on him then. Anyone new to him now has a big bouncy tigger to contend with!

Funny though as he was so soppy yesterday which he can be sometimes but yesterday he was very cuddly and stood still for a bath ect.....odd horse!
