Glossing over the actual eventing...

Yesterday I finished dressage, loaded horse and went to walk XC. He stood quietly. Today I finished XC and loaded horse, came back and people next door (who laughed at my signs as their horse is the same - they thought it was a v g idea!) reported that...he stood quietly!

Now this is a major breakthrough for us, I suspect he will still be vile between phases, but for those that know us, I am sure you will agree, the 'ignore' policy seems to be working!

Oh were you the lorry which had signs on the lorry partitions saying ' this horse is not panicking he is just throwing a strop?'

Fab news he behaved. It is such a pain in the backside when they are a menace at events!

Ah yes, that would be my lorry! Trouble is, he is 100x worse when he knows I am there, as he thinks it means he might be missing something! And as he isn't a 'people' horse, if strangers go into 'his' space he gets very narky...

In a manner of speaking! They say 'This horse is not panicking, he is throwing a strop. Please do not enter the lorry to try and calm him down as it only makes him worse. Owner is registering/walking the course, if really worried, call....' (with my mobile number on th end).
 
Sounds like a great improvement. Hope you have nothing in your lorry he can get caught up on etc, as had friend last spring whose horse tried to jump partition (still tied up) and ended up in Troytown vet clinic with punctured lung.

He doesn't do anything like that, he just kicks incessantly. So it looks awful and sounds dreadful, but he can't really do anything that bad. He also sweats up. None of that this weekend though. He doesn't try and climb out, it is literally attention-seeking noise making - front feet are a new favourite!

No point 'desensitising' him at home as he just stands like the dead on there anywhere other than at a show.

[/ QUOTE ] And every other event we've been to...until the signs! I swear it is helped because no-one tries to look and see if he's ok anymore, so he doesn't get cross as having people, particularly strangers in his space really does wind him up. Should have thought of it sooner really....
