One seriously pissed off OldGit

I really don't imagine OG would have posted his event report as he did if he thought it would provoke the reaction it has. MG seems to have developed a somewhat 'dirty' stop recently, and hopefully there will be a reason found for it.

Hope you get him back on form soon OG.

I'm not going to comment on OP's reaction to the horse. I wasn't there so it's none of my business. However as someone who can sometimes swear too much I can understand why officials would be concerned about the language as it is not professional or respectful in a public. By competeing we are representing the sport, the professional body (BE) and ourselves. We should have manners and behave in a respectable way, especially when a lot of time and effort has been put into the event by organisers and such like.

When I was a child I fell of my absolute stinker of a pony at a show. I had a proper tantrum, screaming and swearing and pummeling the floor. My father silently walked in to the ring, picked me up and threw me over his shoulder. He told me I didn't deserve a pony and locked me in the car and wouldn't let me out untill I was ready to apologise and promise that I would never act like such a spoilt brat again. I was 8 years old. Sounds like this is a lesson OP is learning now.

I have followed this thread with interest. I wish I could be like all the people on this thread who have never lost their temper with their horse. I don't think that OG's response was correct, but he is only human and I love reading his posts on here.

I have only ever hit a horse in anger once. Monty, god rest his soul, was a bit of an old bugger :D He was eating his dinner once when he spooked at something and broke free. He then refused to be caught and he ran backwards about 30 yards to where my car was parked. He then kicked it three times, smashing the headlight and damaging the panelling . My OH caught him and I calmly walked over to them, picking up a schooling whip on the way. I then hit him three times on the arse as hard as I could (I mean I REALLY hit him). :(

I then locked myself in the car and cried and cried while OH sorted Monty out. OH eventually persuaded me to go over and see Monty. He showed me there was no mark, Monty was not sore and was not scared of me. I have always regretted it, and have never done anything like that again.

Why am I admitting it?? Because we are ALL guilty of losing our tempers sometimes, we are only human. I feel TERRIBLE for what I did, but Monty forgave me and I finally forgave myself.

We should draw a line under this (especially you OG!). Onwards and upwards, there are other days for eventing :D

As for not swearing?? LOL!!!! When the ginger one ditched me onto my face 2 metres from the line on an endurance I turned the air blue (I think it was f****** motherf*****). The words 'France' and 'Sausage' also came out of my mouth at some point :D

That is absolutely true and a fair comment. However much you swear in private, that is up to you but anywhere in public then you should have more respect for others and yourself IMHO.

I have been hoping for weeks that this will be addressed :( perhaps now it will. In amongst all the various replies that OG has received on here, nobody else has bothered to ask WHY the horse isn't his usual self :confused:

I have to say upon reading the post i did think that it sounds unusual for this horse to behave in this way, sounds to me like he is trying to tell somebody something isn't right?

I for one have been known to give a horse a bloody good smack should they deserve it, but i am not sure after falling off, catching the horse and getting back on a smack would be useful as the horse would no longer know what the smack was for.

On a genuine horse i think i would be trying to find out exactly what was going on before turning to the whip for encouragement. But for all we know the OP may have already been down all these routes and found nothing?

Yes, well, everyone's an expert, right?

I wasn't there and I don't know OldGit, but from previous posts he doesn't seem like the abusive type. Don't you all think it's time to get off his back and put this thread to bed?

at the end of the day, it has happened now, and you can do nothing to change it. I can't belive that everyone on here is so 'perfect' not to have had a s**t day and had to let out their temper somehow, whereas you just did it in a more obvious manner :p
I hope MG is back on winning form soon :D
