One giant leap for dogs of Otley - I hope!!
Today, we went for our normal morning walk of through the park and round my FiLs bean field. We met a collie (while on the lead) but I let him off, he went over, introduced himself politely and when the collie ignored him, he did 4/5 flybys (where he gallops by, cms from the other dogs nose in an attempt to get it to play) which were ignored and he didn't have a tantrum. In between each flyby, he was called away - and he came. He was so good, he stayed off lead all the way across the park, which I don't normally do as he is (was...?) so iffy about recalling.
So then we got on to the bean field, had a good run with his frisbee, saw a couple of rabbits - and ignored them - and as we walked down towards the footpath, we saw a boxer. Had we been closer, I would have asked if he could play but we were just a bit too far to shout as I've lost my voice
Herman saw the dog, but ignored it, preferring to play Hunt The Treat (having lost the damned frisbee :cross: ) He was close enough to see it AND go over and play, but he didn't *proud*
Put him back on the lead to go on the footpath as I didn't fancy trying to shout him back 'in case' and while on the lead we met a little Border (which he asked to play but accepted it when she said no - no barking!), back through the park (off lead, didn't see any dogs) and along the drive to the park (on lead) where we saw 3 Labs with different people - all of them were ignored other than to ask to play and when they ignored him, he whinged a bit (pllleeeeeeaaaaasssee?) then sat down in a huff - because I have a little script 'he isn't aggressive, he's young and rude and will bark/jump up as we pass because he thinks the way to get dogs to play with him is to bully them!' Obviously as he didn't do it for ANY of the dogs, they asked why I was saying it and so we got into a mini conversation. All the way through the conversation Herman just laid down or sniffed politely or begged whoever we were talking to for cuddles and generally made me out to be a total liar.
I am SO pleased with him today, I know it's not much and I don't really post much other than to whinge I can't do it!! or That bloody dog!! but I am so happy with him today. I can (nearly) forgive him drinking out the toilet bowl and putting great big muddy paw prints over our bed! Nearly.
