Who has or knows of, or who has had a one (Wo)Man horse? Any one got any experience of this? For example, horses that when anyone else but the one person get on it, bucks or does something quirky when riding? Or maybe will only let one person ride?

Just interested :)

I have one that will even get awkward handling if anybody else is than me is trying. He's completely reliant on me for confidence; if somebody else gets on he barely moves out of walk and given chance runs straight to me:o My groom says he's very backwards, but I find him rather forward bound if anything...

haha this is perfect for me lol, well dales gelding had from 6 months old, sent him to be broken in as we had started him and had him riding but thought wed dne sumthing wrong as he was (mental), anyway a very good horseman told me he was one of those few who just would not take to work under saddle, anyways after being told to pts or sell on i perservered, two years later and a few hiccups he trusted me n he was fab, anyway moved abroad n he was left in careof father who had numerous people to come try n ride him, well they all came up once but never came back lol, most were on the floor before they even gt their feet in the stirrups, one girl who told dad "iv ridden and broken racehorses hes a 15h dales man" was soooo embarassed when after a few dance moves she ended up eatn dirt.......anyways i came back home two weeks and we were riding again no probs at all, started jumping unaf shows he gt rosettes, however im too big for him so bought new horse and gave him to my daughter, and suprise suprise he loves her.....theyv just dne first clear round and altho shes slightly nervous hes looking after her like he did me, but i thnk dif is we have both looked after him frm the ground up n hes gt trust in us both.

well thats my novel lol xx

I think my pony is a one women pony, she is fine with me handling her but can be very awkward with other people, she will kick out, pull faces and get really marish. It is now becoming a problem as I need her to go out on loan but she is so tuned into me that she doesn't settle with anyone else :(

My current horse isn't tooooo bad, but my old boy was a serious one person horse. He was an ex-racer, but he'd been standing in a field for years because he intimidated everyone so nobody touched him. He used to lunge at people to bite, kick, bolt off on the lead, bolt out of his stable before you could get in it, refuse to be caught and was generally a mission to handle on the ground. He was led with a chifney bit and was just let out of the stable..and nobody would come near him. I cannot even recall the amount of times he bit somebody or bolted randomly with no warning..some grooms were leading him at HOYS, and he buggered right off and straight over two of them. Absolute nightmare sometimes..

Under saddle, much the same - lots of bucking and bolting. Very tense, dominant kind of animal :)

I got hold of him, and he never once bit me. And it wasn't experience, I was quite novice..I just never raised a hand to him and always took good care of him, and we just clicked really well.

He never bit or kicked me, I'd lead him happily with a halter and generally he'd walk up to me anyway, so I didn't have to fetch him. He bolted out of the stable when I had him once but he used to go mental in a different stable to his own and that's what happened....but even when I had him and his behaviour was much better, he'd still bite or bolt off if the grooms tried to handle him too much. Under saddle...hmm..haha before I got to know him properly he was testing..he was never an easy horse to ride, always somewhat unpredictable and prone to bucking and bolting, but it was a huge improvement, and for anybody else he was a total nightmare. Literally, somebody would climb on and he'd just be horrible. Particularly hated my instructor..used to try and kick her as we worked on a circle.

He still sounds really bad, but honestly for me he was fine to handle, and unpredictable to ride but not anywhere near as much as he was for anyone else...and he really did give me a lot of awesome times :) Don't think I'll ever find a horse quite like him again really :(

Current mare seems to be a one person, person!. If I have a sharer look at her she will behave out of character and sulks for days afterwards. bit of a bummer really

My chap is becoming more of a one woman horse now. Not to ride, he is anyone's ride, but to handle he is normally fine for me but can be awkward for others. He looks to me for confidence and comfort, which is really nice actually. He is a bit neurotic - probably why we have bonded so well, we are so similar :P

my boy does like/love me a lot always walks/trots /the italian stallion gallop to meet me always neighs and watches me when im around will not eat his feed if i go near another horse and watches me intresting ly ears pricked if i go near one in yard haha no one rides him apart from myself and son/daughter im his sole carer and have from day one of ownership dont know if ive spoilt him though .Mind horse before him wasnt too keen on me ! I think he would have quite a shock if he had a new owner for a week ,!

I ride a friends horse. Hes an absolutel angel with me... and a little moster with other people.

I just dont know what elese i can do with him! Shes trying to sell him, but he was a cheeky moneky with a lady who came to try him!

We dont ride any differently, he has just decided who he likes! :(:o

Had my lad since he was a youngster, very unhandled, and he hated my husband, to the extend he pinned him to the wall by his neck... so I decided to dump the husband, horse was happy... remarried... now he tried to get me away from Hubby2, whom he adores... cute if he was a JRT, not so cute when he's his size!! Fine these days, but loves hubby, but if we walk across the field together, P has to muscle in between us! strangley HATED me being pregnant, refuses to look at my son even now, he's nearly 6, but my daughter he is at his best under saddle, she can't ride really, and is 11.. he's 16.1 friesian x shire... and not the easiest... random mule.
