I have a cob share, I’m his only rider and would like to do some dressage this year.

I’d like to start with some online dressage before we go out and about but do I need someone to film it for me or is it possible for me to set up a tripod to film myself?

It is better if you get someone to do it for you, but if you really can't get anyone, then a tripod will work.

Make sure it can see all the arena all the time.

Be aware that the judge may not be able to see you clearly at the far end if the arena, so may affect your marks. They can only mark what they can see.

I've been doing online for years with different horses, it's great fun. Yesterdays attempt had 3 takes, 1st one he tanked around the first corner, 2nd take I forgot where to go, 3rd was completed, but a bit rubbish, so will re-record again later in the month.

I use dressage4all.

It is better if you can get someone to film it for you, also think about how easy it is to see your horse.

I had rather a dark indoor school with a black pony, so put white brushing boots on in the hopes it would make his movement more visible.

I’m looking to do this with my cob in 2020, especially because we don’t have transport so are limited to what we can go to...my concern filming wise is that our school is indoor so can’t quite figure out how hubby will stand at c and be able to film the whole arena....

also this is really bad but I’ve only ever done dressage once and was handed the test I had to do...how do you know what test? I’ve searched for the intro test I was looking to do but there are so many different years how do you know the right one?

Poppyblossom, the online sites will publish the tests you need to do well in advance so you have the chance to learn and practise before you video.
You can get copies of tests from dressagediagrams, or you can buy them online.

As for standing a C thats a bit harder if there no space for him to stand back. Best you can do is for him to have his back right against the wall and get as much of the top of the arena in.

I've already tried the filming as find it really useful for me to see how I ride anyway and thankfully as its an outdoor school and he's coloured its easy to see him and his legs

Great idea. Think I'll get my daughter's to do this too - they get super nervous about being watched as shows.

Just looked at Dressage4all.co.uk. There are loads of different classes. Whats the difference between BD unaffiliated and the HHO online ones? Is it that the latter are fund raisers??

Good luck Cob Life :)

I did this a couple of years ago and successfully used a cheap tripod off ebay. It took a bit of faffing to work out where it needed to go to get everything in view from a single spot, but it was do able - depends on the area around your arena I suppose. Once I had it in the right place I paced out the distance from the fence so it was easy to position the next time! I found it really useful and confidence building and certainly recommend it.
