Hello everyone,

I've recently been involved in organizing an event and were reviewing our online entry systems.

Is there any preferred system of use? what do people think of horse monkey? is this a program that competitors find easy to use?

Interested in your thoughts and preferences and what you think has worked well for you.

Thanks :)

I can't stand Horse Monkey! It's clunky, hard to find what you want and it seems to hang fairly often. I've only had to use it once and I nearly lost the will to live - if it hadn't been for a Regional Final I'd probably have gone to a different venue just to avoid using it.

As a competitor, My Riding Life and Equo are my favourites. Especially Equo as it's slightly cheaper...

Have used Equo Events and found it very straightforward.

There's another one called Horse-events which seems to be mostly Oxfordshire and surrounding counties and I've also found it very easy to use.

I seriously worry about security with horse monkey - its so flaky to use its hard to believe they have robust safeguards

I don't mind pre entering for shows especially if it helps out the centres but seriously annoys me when I'm charged a booking fee on the sites!! Pay enough in registration fees and entry fees with something else been added on!!

Thanks guys this is great feedback. What would you think of having to book stabling on the same site that you enter on? Do you think horse monkey could be improved in any way? Personally I found it hard to use in till I had used it for a while and understood what all the symbols and things mean.

Are you connected with horse monkey in some way? You seem very keen to promote / get feedback on that one in particular!

To me, it's not just about usability but also about stability. It would need a complete overhaul of both back-end and front-end to bring it up to standard.

This annoys me too. I tried to enter in person at my local comp centre recently and they were extremely reluctant, saying they prefer to take online bookings (for which I have to pay a fee for) They did eventually take my booking after making me feel suitably scolded !

Well perhaps you can tell me how a friend can delete a horse that she no longer has as you know all about HM site?

Then, how she can change a 'mount' for a pleasure ride she is doing, as no longer has horse originally booked in. (and no, its another month yet to event). New horse added, but cannot delete old horse that is no longer with her, as its pre-entered.

Also, why the dickens there is a fee that is MORE than the old postage, to make things 'easier' for event organisers....

TFF, unamused at friend (and now myself) being a captive customer, as can only enter particular events on this archaic monstrosity of a site :mad3:

The online free is taken by the company that runs the system. It does not go to the organisers and we have no control over it!

No no, don't work for them. I'ts just that was the program we used at our event so was interested on peoples opinions of it, into whether we should try and carry on with it or switch to somewhere else

Apologies for suggesting you do in that case! I'd vote for changing systems :).

Humm that's hard one, if i was her i would get in contact with the organisers of the event as they should be able to change it.

Yup, apparently you cannot delete a horse once its been entered for an event (what ever the type of event, inc pleasure rides). I totally get the no substitute thing for comps, but not for fun rides.
Hey-ho :rolleyes3:

Horse-events, my riding life and equo are really good and straight forward

I got a bit frustrated setting up equo but actually it means you don't have to enter much later on

Horse monkey drives me mad. It's just not clear at all!!!!!

As secretaries of both a local riding club and the equine secretary of a lare country show I can completely vouch for Equo!! Easy to use and very low fees. As a competitor also it's a piece of cake once you are registered.

It's the only system we will use. I have used horse monkey and the other one whixh I can never remember the name of and found them clunky and not overly easy to use.

As a traditional riding club our committee did struggle initially with the concept of it but our treasurer loves it now.

I HATE horse monkey - its so awful to navigate and really exspensive. I've used a few different online systems at different venues and used Equo as an organiser. Club Entries is a bit clunky as is Entrymaster.

Equo is much easier to use and much better laid out on both rider and organiser side. Plus it's way cheaper!
