Hi,

I am currently doing some market research for a new online equestrian shop. Just simple question really - what do you look for in an online equestrian shop? What is the ONE thing that would convince you to buy from that shop? If the first answer is price then please could you give your second answer.

Also, what is the best shop you've bought from? For instance, I really like Frogpool Manor (my local).

Many thanks, really appreciate your help if you post...

The layout of the website is quite important to me. I like Equestrian Clearance, not just because of the prices but i like the way the site is set up and i like that they have a good selection.

I like Ride-Away but HATE their website so very rarely go on there, but i do like to look through their catalogue at home.

I like each product to have a good clear picture, preferably showing it in each of the different colours it comes in and also a good description of the product helps.

Brilliant, thanks. What sort of stock would you readily buy from an online shop? Is there anything that perhaps you would feel more comfortable buying in a shop (not online) and items that you feel happy to buy online?

Free P&P
Wide selection of stock, that's actually IN stock
Good customer service that replies to emails/calls in a timely manner
Decent returns policy
Easy to navigate
Quick delivery

rideaway is by far the best online , as it tells you if the item is actually in stock there n then..and they have the best customer service...i have recently used cavaletti online too and they too have excellent customer service , which if buying online is very important..infact paramount...too many online shops just take ur money and dont send the goods....trust me , i have shopped online for 6 years now and do all my shopping online..only thing is that i am turning into a recluse and loosing my social skills...

Apart from price i would like a limited price on postage rather than per item. A good selection of stock, including that for horses with extra full heads

I was going to set one up ages ago and have a 'pre-loved' section.

Bargain sections are brill too!!!

I too actually set one up but found there was too much competition for online saddlerys now and not enuf money to be made in profit, plus with Ebay now you get anything on there at half price, esp horsey stuff. If your thinking of then i wudn't bother, some peeps spent over 2o k setting up theres !!

quick delivery at a reasonable cost, large clear picture (including pics of colour options), good description, good level of stock, easy search facility

I like frogpoole but i don't like the way they split things up by brand name - ie if i'm searching for a bridle i want to see all bridles not them categorised into brands. They also don't show how many pages there are of items it just says more or previous - you can't quickly go to page 4 for instance. Also don't like that their descriptions are shown on the main page so it takes up a lot of the screen - would prefer a small description then click on item to view full description, larger pic etc

Reasonable delivery times, bought from tackanory i think its called, and delivery took over a month!! Maybe something like robinsons were you can see if item has been despatched!!

If website looks cheap/childish then that will reflect on your sales!!
