Please excuse my ignorance but how do online prescriptions work? I have asked my vet if he'll give me a prescription for Danilon so I can get it online and he has agreed (he mentioned a £5 charge) so do I print off the form and take it in to the vet to complete or get the prescription and then fill in the form myself and send it off? And does it roll on for repeats or do you have to do another form each time?

For some reason I feel really nervous about asking the vet for the prescription and/or help - I'm sure its more common these days for people to do this but I kind of feel I'm being disloyal / cheeky in asking! I'm a wimp I know...

thanks guys

haven't used one for horses but for humans, you get the prescription, order the stuff on-line and send the prescription to the pharmacy who send the medication when they receive the prescription in the post. I would think its similar.

I use Pet Pharmacy on line for my Danillon...all i did was ask the vet for the prescription (make sure they do it for 60 sachets as this is the minimum order for this company) Place your order and pay for it Send the prescription to the company and you should receive your order within 7 days. Repeat prescriptions can be obtained depending on what you are ordering. Hope this helps

You are entitled to ask your veterinary surgeon for a prescription, and they should supply one to you as long as they feel the animal is "under their care" (this phrase is not tightly defined). Assuming they accept this they will provide you a script and may choose to levy a fee (the size of this fee is up to them). You then take or send script to pharmacist and purchase the medication. You are not entitled to determine the quantity of medication prescribed as this is a matter of professional judgement, but most vets will prescribe long term medications in sensible quantities between re-examination. The length of time between examinations is determined by professional judgement and not as the popular myth states 6 months.

As I mentioned in my previous reply regarding quantity. The company which I purchased Danillon from only supplied it in a 60 sachet box so I mentioned this to my vets and they made the script out for 60 not 30 and advised me that they would have to see the pony in 6 months time to reassess him.

Have a look at Pet Drugs Online - I paid £44 for a box of 100 bute sachets.

Don't be afraid to ask the vet for a repeat prescription and question it if they want to charge more than £15 as I think the VMD who make the rules would be disapproving.

Thanks guys, really helpful replies. I'm gonna give it a go; just plucking up the courage to walk into the vets...
