Only an appaloosa racehorse would do this...

I wonder what the outcome will be. I don't know anything about racing in Japan. Any informed H&H forum people around who do?

There's a few white and odd coloured TB's in Japan I believe. Took an awfully long time to get a vet out to the one here :(

She's heterozygous dominant white not appaloosa

Dam of sodachi ???? my absolute favourite for ever and always
Those who know more about colour - how did the spots come? Is it just like a random colouring?

I have seen plenty of horses do this over the years. It's not uncommon. The railings are plastic and easily shoved through by a horse with generally no damage though this guy has obviously caught himself on an upright when crashing through. The wound wouldn't have been significant, the official would have radioed back to say the horse was fit to wait til it got back to the stable yard to see the vet. First and foremost they needed to get him out of the little pen he had put himself in and off the track. If the wound had been significant the vet would be there straight away to tend to it along with a box to take the horse back in.

Also spotted racehorses do not exist in 100% pure tb form. Neither do coloureds, they are purpose bred for colour and are generally useless. This horse is white with random brown spots. Genetic mutations.

As an aside no true tb can be true black either.

Assume OP was referring to the horse scraping it's jockey and saddle off in the stalls while crawling under the gate, rather than implying that crashing through some railings is uncommon.

There is a good link snail has posted above about the lineage & colouring of this horse's family.

And there is no genetic reason why a tb couldn't be true black. They are just very rare due to the prevalence of Agouti in the tb population that causes most of them to be some variation of bay.

I was also referring to the going under the gates too. It's surprisingly more frequent than you would think. One did it at a good meeting this year with, I think Saffie Osbourne in the saddle who ended up with a touch of concussion if memory serves me right.

Yes Saffie Osborne (she is one tough cookie). I think it is a bit of a stretch to say common (or not uncommon as you put it) though - it just sticks in the mind so seems prevalent. Otherwise surely they would make the gates lower...

And I have never seen/heard of a horse managing to completely scrape it's saddle off too. I'm not even sure how it managed that so cleanly

Not one person pats the horse to try and calm it down ?
My Grandpa bred a few horses and one, Thundering Surf, was very successful (by small time breeder standards, he bred 5 altogether). He was offered a lot of money to sell him to Japan and said no horse ever if his would go there. He was a man who stood by his principles.

That looked like a proper bolt given that it went through the rails. Fair turn of speed though be interesting how he does in future races!!
