The start of my fathers - and his neighbours - drive goes along this hedge that is part of a boundry of a house. They have been asked and have not bothered to cut it back - its been scratching our cars and the driveway is starting to crumble into the field its beside (its about 2ft higher up than the land in the field) as folk are driving beside the edge, so one of the other neighbours had to put poles in to mark the edge from the grass.........

Anyway...........today my father snapped............he took the hedge trimmers up and trimmed the hedge back RIGHT BACK to their boundry wall..........so its about 2ft he took off it!

The lady owner is fumingm came down and was banging on dads door and he told her to go away, shut the door then she opened it and came in - without his permission.........He has said he has battened down the hatches (locked all doors and shut the gates).

Now I read a thing on garden law, and since he did not go onto her property he hasnt commited any offence - but - the driveway is not actually owned by my dad or his neighbours, it is owned by the son of the person we bought our house off.

Am I right, he hasnt legally done anything wrong (we are in scotland)?

I am kinda worried that she may be petty and do something like letting her kids outside to scream louder than usual (you can hear them from inside the house and they are like 300m away, or even, opening the gates to my dads when the ponies are in the garden (they get out to eat it as its too much grass for him to cut at the moment)

Could he send her a bill for doing the work?

I can see him doing that to be fair! No doubt she will have been down gurning to the other neighbours - dad doesnt get on with them that much either - as one demanded he cut down all the old tress he has in his garden incase they fell on this guys property - he told them to stuff it and that they shouldn't have bought a house next to old trees if they were scared about it. and the others let their Rodesian Ridgeback chase the ponies round the garden and the son takes it into the field surrounding ours and walks it along our fence.............dad is sure its to wind the ponies up.

My dad really doesnt do neighbours!! SO he moved to a farm with none...........then someone bought the barns and build 3 houses haha, all on 2.5 acres of land!

Down here in England you are fully entitled to cut back a Neighbours overhanging Hedge but technically you should return the arisings so get you Dad to chuck them on the MISERABLE BIT**** Lawn and then Laugh at her Screaming fit.:D

yeah, have seen that bit. I have a feeling he may have told her to F off when she came round. he is terrible with people. He also has a grudge with them as when they moved in they ripped out this huge vintage furnace from the cellar that was in working condition, they just didnt want it,. but also refused to sell it.

He is funny like that is my dad.
