I'm wondering if I'm asking too much.
Would you say £4250 Ono for a well bred 11yr old, good all rounder who shown as a county level riding horse is too much?
I had a lovely lady out last week who said she really liked him and wanted to come back with her instructor, but I havn't heard back, and I've had no other calls, maybe I should reduce him :(

When you say good allrounder, what level of allrounder, and also how big? Is he still showing at county level and doing well? If so he should be worth something for that.

To me I would want something capable of doing rc teams or lower level affiliated for that price.

He only did one season showing about 4 yrs ago, always placed, went to Windsor and three counties etc. he's well behaved and 15.2hh.
I looked at other horses before advertising him to get an idea. He is a lovely boy and can really move. I've had him on horse quest and nfed just over a week now.

Four years is a long time ago to have county shown. In today's market he probably is overpriced :(

Did he actually win? I know someone who brags their horse was 4th in a HOYS qualifier and a top county show... there was only 4 in the class.... He wouldn't have been 4th if there had been more :p

No he hasn't won a county class, he's won local though. I quickly gave showing up when I realised it was who you know not what you know, and the same pro's were winning every time.
I've had him nearly all his life, I feel a bit mean selling him but I've had a baby and he only gets ridden in the field or out on a boring jack a few times a week. I don't want to let him go too cheap.

I would say massivley overpriced- is he ready to go out and jump 90cm/1m right now? well schooled? I'd say more like 2.5K as showing 4 years ago is too long.

If he's not been to competions recently I think it's probally to much money.
Is there any way someone can get him out to do some unaffiliated dressage and showjumping so he's got some current form ?

Sorry, he's really overpriced. I agree that he's probably worth more like the £2.5 mark - 3 at a push if he's a bomb proof hack and generally a nice person.

Very overpriced in today's market im afraid. For £4250 I would want something that was ready to go out and compete now and was consistently placed top three county level recently. Winning locally doesnt really cut it im afraid. For something that hasn't been out in four years and is currently just ticking over I would put him around the 2-2.5k mark

To be honest, price sounds reasonable, that is what similar horses went for when I was last looking. (though I know the economic climate has changed)

Perhaps improve the advert? Do you have really good pro level pics?

But if you don't actually aim for the showing market, what else does he do. Is he is safe, sensible and fairly easy? Does he go XC well, do a nice dressage test, would he hunt. Loads of people out there looking for safe reliable riding club allrounders in which case your price shouldn't be far out.
I'd try a different site, nfed is a bit localised and not that well known and horse quest not so much for the general market.
What about Horsemart and of course H&H!

Whenever I read 'shown at County level' in an ad, I always thinbk 'any-one can take a horse to a County Show'. You don't have to qualify to enter and some horses never come anywhere near the line-up. Over-priced I'm afraid.

What makes this 11 year old horse worth £4k Pigeon?

Going back two years, for a safe, sound allrounder (riding club type) you would have to pay at least 4k!! We sold our pony for more than that in 2011, and he was by no means a world beater, just sane, sensible fun pony . I haven't looked recently, I know things aren't worth so much now, but I wouldn't have said price was ridiculous!!

Unfortunately the bottom has well and truly fell out of the horse market. I couldn't believe it when I was looking as I last bought a horse 3 years ago. What you would have paid 3k for then is now 1.5k if your lucky there isn't any movement and horses that were for sale 12 months ago are still for sale now at ridiculously reduced prices. It really is a buyers market. I purchased my very well bred filly for less then £1000 where I would have paid three times that a few years ago.

Maybe it's diff parts of the country because down south a safe alrounder that has no vices and that is doing low key comps nicely will easily fetch £4k. However I would agree that the ops is overpriced as he hasn't been out and about for a long time. I would drop it to £2950.

But is this an allrounder? All we have really heard is he did some county showing years ago and hasn't done that much since... To me, and allrounder is something you can do rc levels of dressage, sj and xc, plus hack out safely. Doesn't have to win everything, but something you can have a bit of fun on in most local stuff..

Thanks, il try not to take it to heart too much but he's worth more than £2.5k. He cost £2k as a foal!
He is good in traffic and would be very good at dressage. When I look on horse quest there are others like him going for about the same, some a bit more and some less.
I think £3.5k would be my lowest. I'd rather keep him than let him go for less than that.
Maybe il let him go out on loan if he doesn't sell. I didn't know the market had got that bad, I sold a nice coloured that had only just started showing for £5k easily about 4yrs ago!

I'll be looking for something exactly like this come the end of summer but if it hadn't been shown at county level for several years and was never placed when it did I'd be unlikely to spend more than £2.5k/£3k tops
