He hasn't done any riding club stuff, but he is sensible and likes jumping, and my 71yr old mother inlaw has ridden him a few times :)
 
His value as a foal is completely irrelevant to his value now. It does sound like loaning might be the way forward for you though if you don't think you'll get the price for him that you'd like.
 
the difference is realistically his showing career is over, it's not going any further unlike your coloured. Does he jump? He has no recent records, a lot is being put on his 'potential' but he hasn't done anything at 11. As a foal he had 'potential' but not at 11.. at 11 his value is based on what he has done.

This , if the horse is a true allrounder with competitive experience it will be worth £4k but if it is the horse that does not go in a snaffle, see the recent post by the OP, it is not going to do a dressage test for a ODE , this will put people off even coming to view. An allrounder needs to be exactly as described, not a world beater but a genuine type that can go out and do a reasonable job in any sphere.
 
But has he actually jumped round a course of fence in competition, and is he ready to go out at jump 90cm/1m courses successfully now? And when was his last competitive dressage?
 
If he was up and doing dressage, jumping etc. with a recent good RC track record and is safe he would be very reasonably priced especially here in the South-east.

His lack of recent competition history is his downfall and I think the market you are aiming at most people want and are prepared to pay for something that is a safe good allrounder not a show horse.
 
GG2B he was always placed, he just hasn't won a county show. Its very hard to when your in the ring with the likes of katie jerram and other top producers :)
 
Horses are worth nowt at the moment.
I had my bombproof allrounder up for sale a few months ago, he's 15.2, andalusian x, well bred, 13 and done all rc stuff, prelim dressage, sj schoolmaster, hunted, hacks alone in busy traffic etc etc... By the ONE person who rang up about buying him, I was told £2200 including tack and rugs was far too expensive for him. I had tons of long-term loan enquiries though...
Anyway, seeing as I wasn't prepared to give him away as people were wanting, I kept him!
 
Op, you've posted about this horse a lot recently. A review makes me conclude that a maximum price of £2k is nearer the mark. Sorry.
 
I am in the south east. And yes he may need a bit of brushing up but he could jump a course.
I just want a nice home for him where he'l have a bit of fun doing everything. He's not done much for the past year as I was pregnant, so I guess that doesn't help either!
Oh well, il just see how he does.
 
To put prices into perspective, my friend has recently sold her outstanding 10 year old. A true allrounder, he sold for significantly more than the £4K you are asking for your horse OP. And he sold within two days of being advertised.
 
He might be a bit overpriced but have you tried advertising on Facebook? I had my old boy everywhere but it was FB he sold from. If you're in Kent, there are loads of Kent horsey-type pages, plus there are BSJA, riding clubs and other relevant pages; it's free too...
 
Sorry must have misread. Still without a recent competition history I still think you might struggle to get more than £3k for him.

Out of interest where in the south east are you?
 
I bought a 10 year old last year. Hunts, hacks, fun little horse and eventing to novice. I paid not much more than you are asking. He has a competition record and was ready to go out and compete when I bought him. He came with no tack thou.

I totally agree with you amymay a good horse will always fetch a good price. Only the good price of 2013 isn't necessarily the good price of 2010. There are always exceptions to the rule of course. And exceptional horses will always fetch exceptional prices.
 
Just went to look and it itsn't the one I was thinking of.

There is a 9 yr old small riding horse previously qualified RIHS for £5500, Show horses realistically are not making what they used to so I wouldn't be pushing the county level show horse but go more the all rounder route if he is.

Bank holiday weekend, everyone has been watching Badminton or doing other things - I would see how it goes for another week or so

I've just found your ad.

The problem is that all you say about him is that he showed a few years back and is a nice hack. That doesn't make him worth 4k in this market.

If you want to sell him as an all rounder, you need to talk about his jump - how big does he jump, had he done any competing, would he go out now and jump round a course? If so, how big? Has he hunted? Has he done any dressage? If so, what level and what scores? Does he go in a snaffle - your only picture shows him in a double bridle. How well schooled is he? Does he have lateral work, flyng changes established?

These are things you should be mentioning in the ad, you're not giving much to go on really.

And if he wouldn't go out right now and jump round a 3ft course and do a nice dressage test in a snaffle then I'm afraid he is not worth more than 2.5k.
 
I think that it would be worth getting a better jumping photo too, as that one looks awkward (I hope I'm looking at the right ad) because he is starting to take off. It would be more elegant/look more scopey if he was in the air.

I also agree that he sounds more like an allrounder. Could you take him to some comps so that he has recent results?
 
Faracat if your looking on nfed I havnt got a jumping pic, but if your looking at horse quest I have, i think your looking at the right one!
I can't take him out anywhere as I have no trailer and moved him back home to save money whilst on maternity leave, so I'm not on a yard with other people.
 
I think the jumping picture doesn't show him off either. The flatwork photo is lovely - I would market him hard as a potential dressage horse perhaps?

If you type in 15h-`16h allrounder in the £3000 to £5000 range aged 10-12 yours comes up one of the most expensive and has the least experience - all the others are around the £3000 mark, most have BS winnings or other competition experience, another has shown county too...
 
Found his ad :) He looks lovely, I would be tempted to get new pics as his summer coat comes through?
 
Feeling everyones pain here when it comes to selling!

I put my boy up for a reasonable price ( hes out jumping on a ticket atm, has done everything, well bred ) for 4k, was inundated and thought we had perfect buyers with the first people to view, and turned many potentials away, only to have our time wasters with the buyers... re-advertised but now no interest?

Hoping the good weather this weekend will interest more people!
 
Today's market, sorry to say, you're dreaming love...you'd be lucky to get 2k. Hope I haven't offended, just being honest....
 
Your best bet would be to get him out at local competitions where people could see him and hope that word of mouth will get someone interested.
