Only one puppy :(

Don't fret! Skye was scanned for 3 and had 9!

Often vets don't do much scanning like with horses they're not great at it or accurate. The best option with scanning a bitch is to ask one of the lads who scans the sheep, they know what they're looking for because they do it so often and a vet will usually use the same scanner if scanning sheep or dogs so it makes no difference.

Let us know what happens and pics please

Never mind the behaviour issues, My lab was in pup with a single pup and the vet warned that it could be quite large.

We ended up having to rush her in for a section at three in the morning as it got stuck, it was stillborn to boot!

Not trying to scare you, just be on your guard around the time she is due and i`m sure your vet advised you on her feeding so the pup doesn`t get any bigger than it needs to.

i have heard that single puppies can be born with behavioural issues, is this the case??

Ive not heard of this but I suppose it could be a bit like an only child in way where the parents dote on the little one and ends up a bit spoilt( dont want to offend anyone but I knew someone like this).

Try not to be be too alarmed but make sure that the dam gets all the attention she deserves and whether its 1 or 10 pups it does not matter.

Thanks for all the advice, i have arranged for her to whelp at the vets just in case of any complications, and im trying not to feed her too much so the pup doesn't get too big! will definately put some photos up when the pups born in about 3 weeks!

Our bitch was scanned and we were told there were at least 5, and we could feel kicking both sides.
When she came to whelp and had the first we were abit worried as after an hour there had been no more. We got the vet out and he checked and said nope no more pupps! Turns out Poppy had just been lying in the middle and the scan was picking her up everytime.
Pops was big but Daisy didnt seem to have much trouble.
Would have been cheaper to just go out and buy another Border tho.

P doesnt have behaviour issues as such, she just is a little dim and still thinks she should cuddle as she did when first born, not so great now she's massive.
Good luck!

A friend had just one single puppy from their black lab. There were no complications with the birth, but as you can imagine, unfettered access to the milk bar resulted in one humungous pup!
