Oohhh the excitement of steaming hay!

Exciting stuff tonight as have now got a hay steamer on loan from a friend hopefully means no soaking hay over winter and my horse not developing a cough - even though the hay is lovely!
One question - how long do u steam it for if you've got one? Is there an ideal time??

no idea, i just pour 2 kettle's worth of boiling water over mine, leave for 30 mins then hang - job done!

Steam it for a hour. From start to finish. It should heat up to a certain temp (think 70 degrees) in the centre, I can check for sure tomo tho' if you want.
I love steamed hay, it's amazing and smells gorgeous. We use it for racehorses at work.

Of course I imagine different steamers take different times to get up to temperature? Ours is a bale size Haygain
